The lyrics in mainstream hip-hop are so bland and predictable that uncovering rappers on the same level as Common and Mos Def seems to be an impossible task. So, Broadcite - "a collective of individuals exploring a fusion of musical genre for the musically aware" - are looking to break this mould by combining conscience hip-hop with other genres such as broken beat, nu jazz, electronica and latin.
As a label, Broadcite has chosen a genius way to promote themselves and their artists, simply put a selection on one album to give people a taste of what their about. The album is as diverse as any other compilation available and it will manage to satisfy fans of every musical genre. Whilst Broadcite should be praised for daring to be different only two tracks stuck out from an album of 13. Butterfly Theory by Project Move and Falling Into by Stateless, both from the Broadcite crew and both with original and very pleasing R n B and hip-hop tracks.
A good idea and a good listen, but the other tracks just didn't do it for me.
