“Oh those halcyon days at the Hacie” Some may cry, others born from a Grindie/Electro soaked era will wonder what the fuss is all about. Peter Hook (New Order bassist and Hacienda regular) has cobbled together a compilation to emphasize why this post acid house club evokes such nostalgia and how it was filled and bobbing to the brim with intrigue, danger, optimism, and maybe even Bez from the Happy Mondays!
Three CDs jammed packed with classic Hacienda tracks, are skilfully compiled which allows the listener to lift the cloak of mystique about ‘that’ club and what made it tick. Eternally recognizable house anthems such as Alison Limerick’s ‘Where Love Lives’ litter these CDs. Hip hop classics like the dynamic Young MC and the totally under-rated DJ Mink pop up to get the crowd moving, while tunes like Papua New Guinea’s ‘The Future Sound Of London’ highlight the well rounded nature of the compilation.
Classic Hacienda equals 1989 -1992 euphoria. It is electronically smooth Manchester at it’s best, with smatterings of a deeper and more soulful mood topped off with a sprinkling of vocal funky-ness.
The catch is that you may have that nagging feeling that you already possess these classics in your already bulging CD twin towers. Buy it now and you will never wonder where they’ve all gone.
