Music Reviews Artist: Shir KhanTitle: 'Maximize!'Label: ExploitedWebsite: http://www.dj-shirkhan.de/
Once upon a time admitting any connection with Germany could spell the end of even the most promising music career - how things have change! Shir Khan is the latest in a long line of uber cool electro funksters to come out of the German capital Berlin.
While 'mish mash' and 'genre defying' are terms almost as over used as 'legend' when in comes to music reviews, lets called a spade a spade. The intro alone includes blasts of hard house, hip hop and soul, snippets of old speeches, Radiohead and the Ganja Kru's 'Super Sharp Shooter'. With 49 tracks over two CDs 'Maximize!' straddles the border between electro, baile funk, new wave, techno and punk. As a DJ Khan avoids pigeon holing himself, instead relying on his extensive musical know how to get the crowd rocking, an attitude that is reflected on the album.
It bares a slightly dirty tinge throughout driven by fuzzy basslines and a mixture of raw baile funk like vocals and slightly smoother lyrical flows. It features exclusive tracks from the likes of Simian Mobile Disco, Sirius Mo, Adam Sky v Mark Stewart, Munk v Mocky and Sergej Auto v Edu K. Remixes courtesy of Jesse Rose, Surkin , Switch and Digitalism also make an appearance.
With 'Maximize!' Shir Kahn has proven himself as a master compiler as well a master DJ. It provides a high octane journey through all that is good in the elctro infused area of dance.
