GQ- the bastion of male grooming- dubbed this music: “the soundtrack of nocturnal New York”. may have a silly name but they have been the darling of the festival circuit this year and are applauded by the majority of national newspapers and music magazines. ‘Tribulations’ is more of a shout than a song. The vocals jar with the tedious dance music infused baseline. The men behind this madness think that their record forms part of a revolution, a grand plan leading to an even grander rebellion. They are mistaken in their optimism. relies on the music in place of the vocals and it is a shame that such reliance is built upon a misunderstanding. Repeating the same tiny segment of a track ad nausea does not constitute music. There’s no variation, no connection, no emotion. The listener might as well be the girl in the other room. Rating: 1/5
