The Artful Dodger, Craig David, Luck n’ Neat, Assido da Bass and Pied Piper - yes we’re talking garage classics. Hot on the heels of the Pure Garage ‘Rewind - Back to the Old School’ Ministry are taking their turn at trying to document the history of garage.
While the Pure Garage crew went for EZ - Ministry have handed over mixing/compiling responsibilities to the Wideboys. What you get is two CDs of old school 2-step UK garage, the sort you used to get in places like Camden Palace, Bagleys and of course Ministry. Aside from those already mentioned Sweet FA (Flowers), The Dream Team (The Theme) and DND feat Easy Rider (Pick it Up) all feature.
Over on CD 3 you get ‘the best 4x4 dub plates around’ - think Benga & Coki’s ‘Night’ and H two O and Platinum’s ’What’s It Gonna Be’.
‘It’s a London Thing’ (Scott Garcia’s feat MC Style) is probably the most relevant of the bunch to the history of UK G - the sound never did really make it out of the big smoke and its Ibiza and Aya Napa enclaves.
Nevertheless this is one for those that were there back in the late 90s and possibly those that want to get a snese of what the fuss was all about.
