. . Make no mistake; this compilation is mixed by . Didn’t hear me? I said . Remember, this compilation is mixed by ; you won’t forget because the man spells out his ‘handle’ on pretty much the majority of this compilation until its tattooed on your brain.
A three CD set, I’m not sure how Essential the essentials are in Drum n Bass Essentials but it certainly turns in a harder edge than other compilations. As you would expect from Hype – with grounding in Hip Hop he’s been on the scene since the late eighties and is most respected.
But I don’t need to be reminded who he is though and unfortunately, his name is pretty much over every track along with some weird effects which make you think the CD’s jumping in places.
A shame because its well mixed and well put together with some good tracks; from Dillinja’s ‘Bass Cone’ and Potential Badboy’s ‘You’re Mine (Feat Yush)’ to tracks by Shy FX, The Prodigy and Roni Size it treads the line between commercial and up to date underground making it a good beginners comp.
