cirKus' back-story is an impressive one, born when producer DJ Karmil was persuaded by (Gorillaz collaborator) James to Ding to go and work with him at the North London studio of Massive Attack collaborator Booga Bear. They soon they decamped to Sweden to co-found the label TENT Music and begin work as cirKus.
The result is a rather confusing one. Its euphoria without a popper drop, bits of Euro-trance with spacey fx and cut-up vocals, broken beats and eerie piano riffs. You listen through to find out what it is but are left with the feeling that even those behind it haven't quite decided what they want it to be.
The song works better live, as you see from the video below; the vocals given more room to breathe, space for a little rap and the atmosphere allowed to build gradually.
There is certainly something to cirKus but whether 'Fools' does it justice is open to debate
