are Hugh Brooker and Seb Wronksi. ‘Love is like Oxygen', released April 5th, is the first single to be lifted from the forthcoming album ‘Devils Sharks and Spaceships' out April 12th. Linking electro funk with the lyrics from The Sweet's glam rock original of the same name, the duo have produced a single that will bury itself inside your head.
Hugh was one of the first to be signed to seminal 1990's label Acid Jazz. Under the guises of Night Trains, Humble Souls and later as the Merchant of Menace he produced infectious beats and funk grooves working with artists such as Africa Bambaata, The Brand New Heavies and Jamiroquai along the way. Seb was snapped up by the brilliant independent label React records gaining international club success with the euphoric happy house tunes ‘Rainbow Islands' and ‘Sugar Shack'.
As they release ‘Love is Like Oxygen', which comes with 2 extra tracks: U R The Future (Instrumental) & Boom Boom Baby as well as an alternative ‘Breathless Mix' of the original.
Building slowly at first through disco bleeps "Love is Like Oxygen' soon grabs you by the balls and throws down a thumping break under an electro static bass drive meeting fluidly at the catchiest pop hook you'll hear all year.
‘U R The Future', which originally featured the vocals of Diane Charlemagne, Moby's live singer, comes to life here in the form of an instrumental with a pouncing bass that feels similar to Mr Oizo's ‘Flat Beat'. A paced break gels perfectly with a euphoric synth chord and produces a gem that will keep you going back for more. ‘Boom Boom Baby' leads with a smashed out snare grooving into a pop hook that gets down to a swerving breakbeat before returning with that oh so good hook.
's own rework of ‘Love Is Like Oxygen', the ‘Breathless' mix, takes things slowly and drops down a gear. This is a Café Mambo hazy sunset. Warm vocals and blissful backdrop make for a beautiful alternative to the original.
With all the ingredients in place are poised for a hit. Look out they're coming your way.
