Sway has been voted 'Best UK Act' ahead of the first BET (Black Entertainment Television) Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta, USA, on November 12. Sway's win comes in what is the first UK category to be added to the awards show.
The award was voted for by viewers of MTV Base and listeners of Radio 1Xtra and sees Sway beat fellow UK rappers, Kano, Blak Twang, Dizzee Rascal and Plan B.
Now the London rapper hopes to be one step closer to breaking the American market. He said, “I’m mad excited, I’m feeling good about it. It’s a big deal. This is definitely gonna help, BET is massive over there. It’s an honor for them to even consider us...there are a lot of talented people out there."
Stephen Hill, BET Executive Vice President for Entertainment and Music said, “Sway is an amazingly talented cat with standout flow and crazy word play. BET has a long standing history of introducing new music and artists to the US collective consciousness. UK hip-hop has been bubbling for a minute and with the exposure Sway will receive from the show and his win in his category we're excited to expose dope new sounds to our audience once again”.
The rapper will take part in the show at the Fox Theatre alongside Snoop, Ludacris and TI on November 12, which will be screened across the BET network on November 15, and go out to over 80 million American and Caribbean households. Good luck Sway.
