Lady
Sovereign plays her first headline UK show in a year to coincide with
the release of her new single “Love Me Or Hate Me” out on the 29th of January
(download out now) and her debut album “Public Warning” out on the 5th of
February. She plays with her band at London’s
Scala on the 7th of February.
The
brightest UK
pop star for decades, Sov’s bold personality and unique beats are impossible to
ignore. A true one off, it wasn’t long before America woke up to Sovereign’s
talent; they might have invented rap but they literally haven’t seen anything
like this before. Little wonder Sovereign was summoned to a one-to-one audience
with hip hop impresario Jay-Z he was so impressed he signed her to Def Jam. Since then
her US
success has gone from strength to strength.
Her
video for “Love Me Or Hate Me”, was a smash hit, the first British artist to be
No1 most requested video on MTV US and the album went on to enter the Billboard
charts in the top 50 when released on 31st of October 2006, it is the highest
ever entry in history by a British artist in both the US Billboard Rap and US
Billboard R&B album charts, already shipping over 200.000 copies. Love Me
Or Hate Me has now notched up a staggering 150,000 digital sales. While Missy
Elliot was so impressed she even lent her support to a remix of “Love Me Or
Hate Me”, which features alongside the original and a sizzling Jason Nevins
remix on the UK
single release.
Now
following two sold-out American tours the tiny rapper from Wembley is preparing
to match her US
success on home soil.
