The world famous music festival returns in June after a two-year absence and is set to be the biggest yet! Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis has announced that 25,000 extra tickets will be sold, increasing the capacity to 137,500 - that is 25,000 more revellers than previous years!
The Glastonbury boss has extended the site by 100 acres, borrowing land from neighbouring famers' to account for the increased ticket sales. He also revealed that in a bid to tighten up security and to stop ticket touts cashing in, photo identification will be introduced this year, with each ticket sold for the three-day festival featuring a picture of the person who bought the ticket.
Mr. Eavis said:
"I'm absolutely determined this year to wipe out ticket touts. At the last festival official tickets were on sale for £125 but there were instances of them changing hands for up to £700. This is just not fair for the people who want to come along and enjoy the music. Technology has improved so much that we can now include a picture of the purchaser on the ticket and if you don't match the picture at the gate you won't get in. Hopefully this ploy will be successful and catch on at other venues as it could really put the ticket touts out of business."
This year’s Glastonbury Festival will take place on the weekend of June 22-24.
