Estelle leads the way at this year's Mobo Awards with a staggering five nominations. The 28-year-old from Hammersmith in London, who went to number one with ‘American Boy’ in March, is up for best song, best UK female, best R&B/soul, best video and best album.
Leona Lewis is up for 3 awards and will go head to head with Estelle for best UK female, best video and best album.
This year’s nominations reflects a very good year for British urban acts, with Dizzee Rascal also up for best male, best song and best hip-hop artist. For a second year running, Dizzee Rascal is the hot favorite to take the prestigious best male award, but will face tough competition from Wiley, Jay Sean, Sway and Taio Cruz.
Rapper Wiley is also up for three awards: best song, best male singer and best hip hop.
Spice Girl Mel B and Rev Run, founding member of hip-hop outfit Run DMC, will co-host the awards at the Wembley Arena on 15th October 2008.
