The
Stop the War Coalition charity single ‘War (What Is It Good For?)’ by Ugly
Rumours has hit number 6 in the official UK mid-week chart.
A
pro peace record, the single is being released to highlight
the 4th anniversary of the war in Iraq, which falls on March 19th.
The band feel the nation weren’t given an opportunity to decide whether Britain go into Iraq or not. By releasing ‘WAR’,
the band have created a musical referendum for those who objected to the
Governments actions. By charting the single they want the Government to know
that a huge majority of the British people do not support their actions in Iraq.
Ugly
Rumours is the brain child of Ben Gray, manager and executive producer. “I was
disillusioned with the way Tony Blair has conducted himself through the whole Iraq situation.
In 2003 a million people marched for Peace – their pleas were ignored. Four
years on and we’re still not being listened to. I couldn’t sit around and not
do anything, which is why I came up with the idea of releasing this record,”
explains Gray.
A
re-working of Edwin Starr’s classic, ‘War’, the single also features the vocals
of P’Tricky.
