New Look For UK Singles Chart |
|

|
Thursday, 07 April 2005 |
The most dramatic change to the Official UK Singles Chart for 20 years will take place next week with the addition of downloads.
With download sales topping 300,000 a week and growing rapidly, their addition to the singles chart will almost double the volume in the market.
Data for the new-look chart will be collated from this Sunday, 10th April.
BPI chairman Peter Jamieson said:
“The singles market has been criticised for being too narrow in its appeal… the addition of downloads to the Official Singles Chart will take the market to new audiences and broaden the appeal of the singles market, something we’ve been looking for for years.”
The first number one in a combined physical singles and downloads chart will be revealed live on-air to millions on the BBC and commercial radio listeners on 17th April 2005.
