Unofficial radio listening figures published today by Kelvin MacKenzie's Wireless Group, hail Chris Moyles as the saviour of Radio 1 having boosted the stations breakfast audience by nearly a fifth since taking over from Sara Cox.
Despite continuing to loose listeners overall (sliding from 11.8 million last year down to 11.4 million), Moyles is reaching 2.6 million listeners in the first quarter of this year, compared with Sara Cox's 2.2 million last quarter according to the latest unofficial figures.
Elsewhere, Radio 4 retained the unofficial top spot with 17 million listeners, up from 16.3 million in the last quarter, while Radio 2 lost 150,000 listeners to 15.1 million. In London, Capital FM doubled its lead over Chrysalis-owned Heart to 150,000, according to the unofficial figures.
Radio One recorded its' third consecutive all-time low when the last Rajar’s were published in January. Let's hope Moyles is able to give Radio One the official boost they need when the official quarterly figures from Rajar, released tomorrow.
