PLAYSTATION 2
God of War
God of War takes a bloody tale of vengeance, set against the backdrop of ancient Greek mythology, and gives you control of its brutal protagonist Kratos. Action adventure games of the quality of God of War are rare, and this is one that every Playstation owner should have. God of War is the tale of Kratos, a huge muscular Spartan Warrior in his quest to destroy Ares, the God of War. It’s an epic adventure filled to the brim with bloody, stylish, over-the-top combat and challenging puzzles, with a fantastic story that slowly reveals the reason for Kratos torment. The game is made even more enjoyable because Kratos himself is such a hard core, blood thirsty and merciless character.
Blood, guts and cold hard vengeance of the gods in mythical times.
His ‘blades of chaos’ attached to his arms by chains, can be used to create devastating combo attacks. The combos are simple to use and as players’ advance they gain more of them, increasing damage and ever impressive graphical effects. While not the deepest you’ll come across, the combat system is a lot of fun and easy to master. There are also context sensitive attacks that appear and using the right sequence of moves in a mini game will let you kill them in spectacular ways. And as the game progresses the gods grant Kratos with powerful magic.
Kratos is one mean S.O.B
The combination of different magic’s, along with the weapon combat, creates an excellent variety of attacks to play with keeping things fresh.
The game also has highly impressive boss fights, with creatures that fill the whole screen and require tactical thinking to defeat.
The games graphics themselves are unbelievable. The stage layout is massive, from the sprawling city of Athens to the war-torn seas of the Aegean. Animation is superb, from the mythic beasts like Hydras and minotaur’s that you fight, right down to Kratos pulling out his blades and preparing for battle, and the graphic detail never lets up. The game has an 18 certificate for a reason, given that it’s as violent and bloody as you can imagine, but that only serves to add to the atmosphere of the game.
