The Xbox 360 starts 2008 with a hell of a year to look back upon and beat. Some have argued that 2007 was the best year in video game history, and if that's true the Xbox 360 played a huge part in that. We were treated to massive titles like Halo 3, Mass Effect, Assassin’s Creed, and Call of Duty 4, just to name a few and Microsoft are going to need to pull out some really big guns for 2008 , if they want to keep their lead over the PS3. Luckily it’s looking like they have a good crop of titles to bring to the next stage of the console wars.
Here UKMusic.com presents the first of our top picks for Xbox 360 games due to arrive on our shores in 2008. This list isn’t in any particular order, it’s just an early indication of what we’re most looking forward to. The proof, as always, is in the pudding, and reviews will tell all- for now we’re just sharing what’s got us all stoked up!
Army of Two
Genre: Third Person Shooter
Developer: EA
Why we all want it:
We said it before and we’ll say it again- Co-op rules! EA’s Army of Two was meant to be released last year, but slipped back into 2008 and now that it's almost here, we can hardly wait to get our mitts on it! The games two main characters, Tyson Rios and Elliot Salem are mercenaries and former special rangers sporting distinctive trademark ballistic facemasks as they work in tandem on dangerous battlefields across the globe. (Play nice now kids!-Ed) It also looks pretty funny, like an 80’s action buddy movie, as the stoic Rios and crazy Salem bicker with each other over the gun fire. This one should be a great game to work through with a friend, if EA can deliver on the co-op action- and the cheesy laughs.
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Genre: First Person Shooter
Developer: Ubisoft
Why we all want it:
Viva Las Vagas! The first Rainbow Six Vegas saw your Rainbow Squad battling terrorists in 'Sin City', and with Vegas under threat again it's up to you to save the day. The game is being billed as "part sequel, part prequel", so rather than play as an established character from the last game, you'll get to create your own one, leading a second team. It opens up the story, with events taking place both before and concurrently to Rainbow Six Vegas. Ubisoft are promising this will be conclusion to the 'Vegas story' in Rainbow Six , as you take care of the terrorists once and for all.(I wonder where to next? Rainbow Six London anyone?-Ed) The first game featured realistic weapons and great combat, both on and off line in graphically amazing Vegas locations, and some members of the team were hooked on multiplayer for weeks. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 promises more same and we're looking forward to losing ourselves ranking up online. Best of all, there's a proper co-op this time around. (About time too!-Ed)
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Genre: Third Person Action
Developer: LucasArts
Why we all want it:
The Force looks more than strong in this one ! Set in the lost time period between ‘Revenge of the Sith’ and the original Star Wars movie, The Force Unleashed sees you playing as Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice, sent out to destroy the remaining Jedi fleeing across the galaxy. You’ll wield Force powers even more explosive and impressive than those seen in the movies and just about everything in the game will be destructible. Lucasfilm are treating this like a movie release, with comic books, novels and action figures, but it’s all about this games’ Star Wars fan wish list for us.(I wouldn’t mind a couple of action figures myself-Ed) Using the Force to throw Storm troopers like rag dolls? Check! Chaotic lightsaber duels in iconic Star War locations? Check! Killing those pansy goodie two shoe Jedi Masters? Check! Turning to the Darkside has never looked sweeter!!
