Default Why is our Garage industry so separted???

    ...WHY???

    You have:
-Early producers "hating" on the new producer because of the type of music they make
-Big veteran DJs "hating" on the new DJs
-So may new names...grime, eski, 8-bar, sub-low, etc
-Wiley saying he don't care about Garage (when it's the GARAGE fans that MADE him)
-Elder ravers making comments about the new younger ravers
-People trying to, either form a new type of music from Garage, or people going commercial and "ducking" Garage for R&B
-People (in the industry and outside the industry) keep on saying that Garage is dead

    + MUCH MORE

I am a DJ who is 24 years old. I love old Garage (from back in '95) right up until now. I play all "forms" of Garage. For me Garage will never die, and I'm not scared to follow the music as it evolves!

There are a few people I properly RESPECT in the Garage industry. Three of them are:
-STICKY (UK Garage's best and most consistent producer in my opinion)
-DJ EZ (Versatile. Plays all forms of UK Garage. Multi-award winner)
-MARK LAMBERT (Sidewinder promoter. Knows how to put on events, and books DJs from all different "genres" of Garage)

Think what UK Garage would be WITHOUT the above 3 people. There are other people (consciously and unconsciously) breaking up the scene and being hostile towards others in the industry.

    Do you feel me?

because people got fed up of the same old dj's playing the same old tracks in the same old sets, by the same old line ups, for the same old price! Why pay to go to out when all you got was the same old same old.

    Hence the seperation

The question is too deep to answer, I would have to voice my opinions, face-to-face.

Garage clubs in London are practically non existent, however people are still churning out beats, in their hundreds. It's only natural in this day age, for collectives, to start branding their sound a different genre. i.e.'Eski'. All producers are looking to create the next big ting.

Personally, there are a couple of producers that are doing it for me at the mo, hailing from the Croydon Districts. There's never been so much choice of 'Uk Garage flavours, at the moment, we're all battling for top spot, which is fuelling, talented productions.

All what 'Uk Garage' is missing is some plush clubs in London, more gyal, and dope beats,....................... just like the old days.

These divisions are important to establish a new sound, but really run the risk of keeping the sound small and unheard.

I don't think the divisions are as clear and important as people make them. You have to remember -- people (customers) want to have a good time, they don't want to play loyalty games to some tiny subgenre of a small genre of music.

That said, I'll be debuting "LightTouch-Step" in the summer. Feel free to join me in my bedroom -- I'm sure there will be plenty of space.

Oh, and another thing -- I think it's pretty ridiculous when, as a DJ, I don't even know what to call the music I'm playing.

surely that's the beauty of it... why does everything in this day and age have to be branded as this or that... Surely it's the creators right to call it whatever they want.

I agree, but it confuses the hell out of people who might be fans of the sound but can't figure out where to find what they're looking for.

A little marketing savvy can go a long way, and doesn't have to compromise the creativity and originality of the sound.

but ho wcan "eski" be a genre? its the same tune bout 20 times in different arrangements. The problem is too many producers are trying to copy. Like plasticman. He was the dan, he had his own style his own sound, grimey riddems, now x amount of producers copy him and say they have a new genre called grime. I havent brought a garage tune since Mark one-Blair Witch because all the tunes coming out now i already have with a different name on the vinyl. And anybody decent who comes out of garage leaves garage and makes their "own genre."

I think all the producers of garage need to get their own sound and stick to it. (and not make 246 remixes of it)

Eski is a genre, it has that type of sound, which is identifiable. 'Korg Tritron' sounds'.

As for 'Plasticman', I haven't heard anyone, reproduce his style, with conviction yet. Only his label mate 'Markone', can achieve his/their sound , yet.

Most good producers, have majical 'Fairy dust', which is a hidden secret of mad plugins, and secret production techniques, which may be hard or easy configure.

I haven't got a problem with people copying each other, that's how we get a given 'sound' anyway.

i agree they have 2 follow some sort of guideline to keep a genre but i personally have heard about 18 (no exadurration) tunes using the same eskimo sample. it realy does not appeal to me anymore and plastic no1 really copies as such but they 'remix' his style and it really doesnt apeal to me anymore. Back in the day u could actually dance to garage then a 'grime' tune would drop and it would b hectik. something different. not anymore. just my opinion. im just annoyed that the garage i like has been discontinued.
