    Predictions for 2004?

These are always excellent topics to look back at a year later...

Who do you think is going to be big in 2004? How do you think the scene will go? What do you think will happen!?

Dubstep continues to influence grime into becoming good.

    If that makes any sense?

Lots of new procuders break through.

^^^ Hahaha - I thought I was the only one with that problem !!

I can see grime getting bigger this year.

Also DJ's coming through in the grime scene - getting more of a status again. The MC's will still rule it but I can see the DJ's earning more respect !

Russian garage scene isn't really into grime or oldschool 4x4 revival. In 2003 we had to play more breaks stuff (like Aquasky vs Masterblaster), ragga/dancehall, bhangra and even Northern speed garage sound.
But we still hoping to hear more 2step vocal tunes in 2004.
We tired of waiting months to get vocal tracks released. Stop that "CD-R pressure" for Big Name DJs. As we can't find good records to buy for many weeks.
Good news: russian producer Artifact is going to be signed to Matt Jam's Solo Recordings!
Thanks to Social Circles for supporting the RG scene! Their latest 3rd Edge release is a good direction for 2004!

I think styles with seperate more, and become more defind. There will be no confusion between grime, fwd, dubstep and breaks anymore. Pruductions alround will get better and better gaining the scene respect from a wider audience.

Let me know if this makes some sense. lol

I predict the forward/grime/dubstep sound will go more global. And what DJ Reenat said -- enough of the dubplate culture. Let's push this sound on all uneducated fools worldwide.

People to watch for in 2004:

DJs: I'm predicting some worldwide talent will show up and get more love here.
MCs: More positive vibes. Especially if the Donae'o album gets out and starts to push a fresher approach.
Producers: Wiley and Sticky will make an international breakthrough. Plasticman will continue to reach higher in the UK, get love from non-"dark" folks. The half-time sounds will be big, too.

My thoughts from across the pond.

Due to the sickening events that took place at the 'Eskimo Dance" gig, the 'Foward' sound will have to distance itself, thoroughly from the 'Grime' scene, in order to a develop.

Club promoters, will be more intrested in 'Hosts', than Mc's. This basically means, that they are looking for a vocalizer, who has 'party lyrics', rather than 'Gun man lyrics'.

The 'Ministry of Sound', will continue to ram out 'Smoove', every Friday, throughout 2004. Ministry should be comended, for running a club within London, for the past 3 years, with 'Uk Garage' as it's main ethos'. We all know that 'Smoove', can sometimes be, Lame, but it's ram jam, everyweek, making it 'the lifeboat', for 'UkGarage', in London.

Lastly, I hope that Uk music, primarly Garage, will pick it's self up from the bad press, and slowly, re-establish itself, as the number one Urban sound, to listen to.

Lets bring back the good times people............................................ .

Grime itself will die out (theres only so many times a bong and a hand clap sound fresh) i think most of the recognised producers like sticky will try there hand at rnb or join the ever developing uk hiphop / rnb scene? Will they have what it takes to make the grade??

I think a new 4x4 scene will develop but only once up and coming producers / people start seriously collaborating with each other and helping each other out in ever way poss. Gotta give a special mention to dj charma, anna kiss and others for supporting the ever growing scene of unknown 4x4 producers. theres loads of ways people can help each other, i.e. form production crews, remix other up and comings work, work with vocalists to create original songs, team up with other producers for a release (like what stáylocked did)

Someone did mention about dub plate culture, unfortunatly its not our fault (the producers) the distribution companies only want grime so vocal people now send there stuff direct to the djs on CD-R. I think dub plate culture will continue to increase and the distribution companies will eventually go out of business or just sell house.

Dubstep / forward is already established and seperate from grime in my opinion.

breakbeat is worldwide and has been for years. its nice to hear stations like raw and ruud playing bb

^ yeah but there's a new form of breakbeat that certain dj's are championing - uncouth youth, deekline, quest, oris, autobots, distortionz, aquasky etc etc (urban breakbeat if u want a term)

Yeah Sid, thank god for that. 'conventional' breakbeat has been stale for -time-. I think in 2004, the traditional breakbeat scene will have to recognise or get caned!

They're calling that sort of breaks "nu skool" breaks over here, and you'll generally hear the breakstep stuff mixed into more traditional breakbeat rhythms. We've been getting some crossover love from those people.
