New Free Event Bringing Street Art, Music and Movement to London

A new FREE one day event is coming to the East End on September 11th 2005. Taking place at The Old Truman Brewery, Swatch Urban Expression is about the many different forms of expression combining music, graffiti, dance, freerunning and customisation. Some of the UK hottest and freshest talent will be performing live and hosting workshops throughout the day with music and graffiti jams open to all.

Graffiti and design forms a key part of this event as it is an integral part of the urban landscape. Swatch Urban Expression is providing a legal forum for this form of expression, with demonstrations and workshops performed byThird Decade who have been at the forefront of the graffiti scene since 1983.

Music on the day will be provided by headliner DJs Barry Ashworth (Dub Pistols), Skitz (1Xtra), Blakey (UK DMC Mixing Champion), Adam A Skillz (Finger Lickin’), MCs the Ragga Twins , JFB, Lady Free and newcomers Devils Gun (performing live) with many more artists to come. A DJ workshop will be on site for hands-on lessons by the DJs from Spunky clothing and there will be an MC and DJing competition taking place throughout the day.

Freerunning will also be at Swatch Urban Expression for all to see. Free running is ‘the art of movement’ when a series of obstacles are overcome in a creative, fluid and acrobatic manner. It has grown increasingly popular in the UK as a result of the BBC film ‘Rush Hour’ released last year and Channel 4’s ‘Jump London’. Members of the 3Run team will be demonstrating their skills, with visitors able to learn basic moves in the Le Parkour gym.

Bringing their truly amazing moves to Swatch Urban Expression are the Undercover breaks crew, arguably some of the best break dancers in the UK. They will be at the Truman Brewery showing off their unbelievable skills with lessons also available on the day.

There will be a fashion market on site selling original and unique clothing, as well as customisation stalls with demonstrations by street fashion designers Red Mutha and Spunky plus Swatch’s own instant store selling retro classics and limited edition lines.
