ok so weve got forward and its the best thing going for our kind of sound. i know a lot of peopel wanna see the forward sound go further but forward cant fly the flag on its own

in order for the sound to progress to a even bigger audience we need to have more promorions at least 3 with tones of hype behind them with support from DJ shows and radio. we need a promotion that we battle forward and challenge forward nights. for example a promotion called new dub nation with a line up of oris jay, deekline, jay da flex, hatcha, hot flush recordings etc plus MC doogz, b-live, flow dan, viper, 2za on each set at a club like hanover gran. it should be ok to hold in london as well becuase its not garage so the police technically cant lock nothing off. we have to learn from the mistakes of garage and keep this scene alive. market the scene in the right direction in other word try not to make apeal to much towards to the streets. cos thats what happened to garage people like pay s u go and so solid with thier gun man talk brought the streets to garage and glamourised garage like its hip hop and ended up killing it completly and creating 8 bar esci sound shítty sound

could you imagine that a proper night out. not no youth club link up on a thursday night then you gotta go work the next day im talking 9 - 6 pn a friday night or saturday

we need to market this sound in the direction of girlies becuase as you know money and temptation make the world go round (ie look at smoking sex, drugs, $$$$ its all you loosing the battle agianst your body). if thiers girls thiers guys. guys will automaitcally go to the nights just for the girls and partly the music

    opionions?

although not strictly the forward sound - another boom event, although less frequent is breakbeat connection. Last two raves we've done have had in excess of 1500 people, and plenty of women.
proper up for it atmosphere, ask anyone who's been.

hotflush recs always ready to clash any other dj's in the above list, although i'd leave the mcing to paul rose.

there will be more promotions soon, definitely true although can't say anymore at mo, but on the level and with the names you're talking about no.

no way those mc's will work with those djs and vice versa, also venue would never be filled...in fact there's loads of reasons y the above wouldn't/couldn't work

Yeah but something along those lines would be good. Not Hanover Grand though. And allow the MCs.

Actually, El Sid clashing with Dog-Z would be kinda cool...

Slowly but surely there will be more events providing the kind of beats you would associate with FWD>>.

Coz there are more and more dj's getting into it plus producers!!!!

me and a mate - used to do events earlier this year at herbal, but management stated that they wanted something a bit more chilled and mainstream - than the sound i was pushing.

lookout for something new in the next few months. we're coming back strong!! incorporating all sorts of different beats - and the best dj's to throw them down. watch this space.

    ^good mc's for this forward/breakbeat sound:

    -crazy d
    -hyperactive
    -ragga twins
    -pj
-spoonface - although he tends to sing a bit too much
-IC3 - the bigman, is prone to throwing down some lyrics on a breakbeat tip.
-Mr Reload - wicked host, especially on radio.

Mc's do we need them or not ? of course we do, but if they think they can wheel back a Dj 's record, then $$$$ em. We need well bahaved Mc's who don't wanna take all the glory.

The FWD sound will always appeal to streets, and keeping the trouble makers out if it gets big, is near impossible.

Girls, well I have seen a few down at cosy 'Foward', but in a larger venue, I can't see much more comming yet. We would really have to start putting some vocals, into our productions, cause lets face it, no sing along, no gyal.

Yes, most importantly, we have to learn from the the mistakes of Garage, a scene that was healthy and large, now it's the opposite.

P.s If your making £10,000 from underground record sales, and a major comes sniffing around, offering you £100,000, what do you do ?, because this behaviour is what sold and killed Garage. We need to take care of everything ourselves, from Distribution, Marketing, to promotion.

Not necessarily - look at DnB.

If a major goes for an underground track - why not sell it? It can only be good for the scene - the problem is when producers start trying to buy into the commercial aspect by doing follow ups and becoming novelty acts. E.g. Masters of Ceremonies - wicked 1st tune then started dancing to the commerical beat = failure. If you want a blueprint check out Daft Punk, and their side projects labels etc. You can make dough by keeping it real.

Licensing a tune isn't necessarily selling out the scene, basically. If it brings to music to a wider audience - all good. Just remember your roots.

Dnb has loads of vocals paul, always has, even from Jungle in 94. I'm not sure if the 'Breakbeat' scene has vocals, but the Foward sound doesn't. So with no vocals I can't see certain girls 'Headnodding' to bass and breaks all night.

On the subject of the majors, the Garage elite were to quick to take large sums of cash from majors, which just sent the scene wild and uncontrolled. If people was making money in D and B, it would be distributed back to the scenes main players, and not into the majors hands. Like food if you cook it too quick, then your bound to suffer internal problems, and this happened to Garage, with the ethos 'every man for themselves'.

^ From 97 to 2000 there weren't much vocals in DnB. The most biggest, most influential DnB labels (V and Ram) hardly ever release vocal tunes, in fact I don't think Ram have EVER released a vocal tune. But DnB has always had a big female following. I think it's a bit simplistic to say that if we had vocals, there'd be loads more girls. And anyway, why should we put vocals on our beats just to make them more appealling? The reason that Forward is beginning to do well is because there is no compromise. It's all about the music. The girls will come, don't worry about that.

I'm simply responding to Iceman saying " Where there are girls their will be guys. I'm not asking no one to change their style of production, because I wouldn't.
I'm not being simplistic, but responding to Icemans request on peoples opinions.
What rave or club do wan't to go to, where everywhere you look it's just bare man. I'm just looking Foward saying we need vocals, and who can say we don't. From Djing over ten years, girls always ask for the vocal tracks. You can't say if the scene gets bigger, you don't mind seeing just a few girls in da venue.

it's about the beats, not catering for girls...i get that u want a more diverse rave but i for one don't want to hear an hour long set of vocals or stuff just cause it's got vocals in it and is going to draw in more gyal.

if that means i am only one of a few girls in a club i don't care until more decent vocal tracks come thru then so be it

I know it's about the beats, but on a long term srategy, i'm saying that vocals will bring a femanine audience. I love 'Foward' at 'Plasticpeople', and won't change the style for nothing, but for the future i'm just hosting a few opinions for the one like 'Iceman.

Breaker: you have a fair point.

One of the good things about Forward is that lots of styles get dropped, and most of the crowd are very openminded. But when you start adding things to the music for a strategic purpose you get into dangerous territory.
