I like everything from death metal to classical to hip hop, and everything in between.
I am a huge fan of 80's and 90's metal and that whole 70's hair metal stuff. I love all the legendary classic rock bands like GN'R, Motley, Led Zep, Queen, Hendrix, you know what I'm talking about. But yeah I really like progressive metal, stuff that pushes the limits.

Its interesting to see how eclectic musical tastes are these days. A while ago, I reckon people were more into their own chosen genres (the typical college scene of the goths, indie kids, dance addicts etc with no interaction between them, you know what i mean). What reasons do people think are behind that? And what do you think of artists who seem to move between genres of music; pendulum for example started out very much drum and bass, but i would say they are more rock now days. Plus in the pop charts we are seeing more rock nowdays. Do people think rock music is just more commercial now days?

I think rock music has always been popular ever since the late '60's.Apart from Indie rock signed to the big labels the popularity of rock doesn't really show up in the charts especially singles/download single tracks.I think only the more commercial/melodic/less abrasive rock bands get chart recognision who appeal to other fans who favour other genres who are considered more commercial. This disguises the actual popularity of other forms of metal/rock however apart from Metallica/ Ac/Dc etc.The big 4 record labals are afraid to sign the less broader appealing rock/groups who are not willing to alter their approach to have more commercial appeal. This is a shame as far as many quality rock groups are concerned who should be backed by big labels & left alone to create their music. They could make a killing if they picked the right group's.The trouble is most record label executives do not understand what rock music is all about as they are only interested in selling units & the return they can get.

The record label executives are interested in making the money, hence they'll go with the "fad" of the time until they create ever disposible subgenre that the original idea can deal with before it gets boring and carry on. The idea of rock being commercial is one which was, as said above, always there and from this they'll always be a slight aspect of it just in a revitilised way. You can't knock it for that though, still gives us some bloody great tunes

There is alot of excellent contemporary rock music out there at the moment that the big 4 labels should be signing up,though.Do you think they are playing it ultra safe due to lack of sales revenue from cd sales etc. Most of them seem to be signing groups that have a Indie rock sound such as Franz Ferdinand , Arctic Monkeys etc.I think rock music has a much wider base than that.I quite like alot of alternative music but the varying styles are not being very well represented.Any good commercial organisation should always try & broaden,as much as possible,it's market.I feel they are trying to appeal to a narrow (although fairly popular) group of people & perhaps signing too many groups that are in the same genre (Indie).

That's they whole point of it, like I am trying to say (though I admitt maybe not in the best words) the audience who makes artists popular is the majority narrow minded people in the market. They will mostly be the sheepish people who listen to the same thing, wear the same thing and have the same ideas on everything. These are the people who are making the money, so unfortunatetly if someone's in a band and their sound doesn't sound like the popular thing of the time, they will not make it big until their genre comes into "fashion". It's a horrible fact of life but one we have to live with, and people who appreciate the other more varied genres are just going to have to make do with having to see out favourite artists suffer because the mass don't think they're popular this month.

I am listening to Reggae, Ska and Metal. I really love the slow beat of Reggae and the catchy punk style of ska. Try listening to Reel Big Fish!

I love EDM as well, from prog to tech and especially Deep House.

The majority of big labels yes. However, there are plenty of indie record labels out there who quite frankly don't give a moment's thought to popular music in order to fill their bank accounts.
