MOBO Award winner Akala and indie duo I Was A Cub Scout will headline 'Club COG presents...The Birthday Bash' at Camden's famous Dingwalls in the first week of June.
The double-header, on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th June, marks one year since the debut of the phenomenally successful Club COG, the flagship live music night of www.checkoutgigs.com.
Check Out Gigs put on their first Club COG show in the upstairs room of a London pub at the beginning of the summer of 2007, and it has since become the most popular up-and-coming live music night in the capital.
As well as 'Club COG', a twice monthly night at Blow Up Metro on Oxford Street and new night 'Once Bitten...', on the first Thursday of every month at the Hoxton Bar & Grill in Shorditch, Check Out Gigs have also confirmed that they will run a stage at independent festival Kendal Calling this August. The festival line-up will feature well-known acts such as Dizzee Rascal and Super Furry Animals.
Best Hip Hop MOBO Award winner Akala headlines the Wednesday 4th June edition of The Birthday Bash. The popular rapper, known to his fans as 'the modern-day Shakespeare,' has toured as far afield as Vietnam and Nigeria, and performed with artists as diverse as Jay-Z, Christina Aguilera and Richard Ashcroft. His second album has been hailed as 'dazzling' by Mojo magazine and 'startlingly effective' by The Guardian.
Alongside him on the bill are Darlington outfit We Start Fires, called 'gratifyingly aggressive, winningly pop' by The Times newspaper, as well as popular London bands Talk Taxis and Dega Breaks.
I Was A Cub Scout, who have followed an acclaimed support tour with Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly with their own sell-out tour, headline The Birthday Bash on Thursday 5th June, supported by the much-hyped Eight Legs, Assembly Now and special guests.
"We're very excited about The Birthday Bash," said Rob Davies of Check Out Gigs. "Combining acts as popular as Akala and I Was A Cub Scout with excellent local talent embodies what Club COG has been about from the beginning, so there could be no better way to celebrate our first birthday."
