I wouldn't say lucky. I think technology has made it more difficult, but also easier. More difficult as the competition has become so much higher, with most of the money being made on tours rather than album sales. But easier in the fact that, if you know how to market yourself, you don't need to be as lucky as musicians in previous generations.

Back in the day, you had to get discovered by someone. Now you just have to put yourself out to enough people through youtube or social media that eventually you'll hit your crowd. If you properly understand marketing, PR and selling an image, you can rely less on luck.
