J, what can I do with them on my Mac and what software do I need to use them...I've never used Soundfonts on the Mac before![]()
I'm not really into Soundfonts, but lets have a listen.
what are sound fonts
they can be used wiv the latest version of fruity, but the soundfont player is only a demo.
I must admit, I'm not that clued up on soundfonts, are there any mac os apps that use them?
........................???
answers to Sen and all other Mac users. if you use Halion or EXS24 as your sampler then you can load sound fonts. also there are Sound Font player VSTi's. Bismark BS-1 comes to mind. these are great if you want to save memory by having a sample player to play ready made sample programs. but dont need all the other stuff that Halion and EXS have.
anyway the other advantage is the Soundfont format is open as opposed to Akai say, and as such many people make instruments as soundfonts which are available online.
also you can purchase some. i just bought a Mo Phat and planetphat module for less than £65/$100. they both came to my email as Soundfonts.
Soundfonts were originally created by EMU for PC users but many mac applications support them. There is even a mac application called Polyphontics that lets you create them
anyway i've put together a few garage kits and thought i'd share them as sound fonts. they are various samples i found around the net, from Grant Nelson's site. sample city etc as well as a few from my Yamaha keyboard. i don't think Fat Zed will get much out of them as he has loads of studio kit.
but for Fruity users and people starting out they may be very useful.
