Default Sound Forge 9.0 Timeline Problem

I've just got Sound Forge 9.0 but I have a pretty major problem with
very basic functions involving the timeline.
I've uploaded a screenshot:

I'm completely new to Sound Forge but I'm dragging the timeline using
the little black line on the grey bar. Firstly, this is very awkward
to do and also it does not line up with the timeline as you can see in
the screenshot. Also I'm unable to get Sound Forge to continue playing
from where I release the time line after dragging it.

Am I missing something here? Has anyone got any suggestions?

Many thanks!
