I know very well of soundblaster products, but I have never seen this breakout box before, where is tt from. It looks heavy!(actually light).

I totally agree with DJ Fat Zed on this...

Although Soundblaster's are widely used by almost anyone, I would refrain from buying one especially the new ones which are not tested and proven to work with your PC or sequencer. There are a lot more professional soundcards out there to choose from (dunno 'bout you but I hardly think Soundblaster is professional-- that's just my opinion) like products from RME, Event and M-Audio/Midiman. I'm a fan of RME products. Stable as hell, tested and proven to work with the big 2 sequencers in the market.

My 2 cents...

Default USB Soundcard?

I would recommend the Tascam-US428 just bcoz it has been tested and proven ( I use one for my laptop), stable drivers, great tech support and you also get a very functional control surface for your chosen sequencer.

There's also a bunch that Roland puts out that's an USB audio/midi interface with mixer surface that sounds similar to the Tascam.
