Default Ready 2 blow!

Im getting really frustrated in the fact that my recent garage tunes dont sound lively enough and aint got the kick like some of the big time producers out there such as sticky, narrows and sirus.Im using reason and fruityloops 3,could anyone give me any advice on producing something special?

Cheers!

Don't expect to make a hit in an instant!!! Remeber, there are lots of skills out there to learn and big time producers often have experience.

If you say you havn't got liveliness and impact, you might not be using swing on you drums and compression properly on most things for that punch. If there's a feature on your software that you havn't used yet, give it a go, and see what happens. Trial and error is the best way to learn.

There's a shuffle and flam option on Redrum for Reason. Try experimenting with those.

You can also use an audio editor (like Wavelab or Soundforge) to analysing the beats in your favourite garage track. Try and determine where the kicks, hihats, snares etc come in.

if you wanna make your tunes sound more lively it might be an idea to start making good use of all the effects.chorus gives the sound a kind of wholesome feel.a simple reverb can make the track sound a bit special.also eq is something which is well underused or used in the wrong way(if there is a wrong way).but like zed said the only way you will improve is practice.im only just starting to think my sound is good and thats after 2 years of practice.keep it up mate ill see you when we both reach the top!
