question Quality loss converting wavs to mp3s

We’d be grateful if anyone could advise us on the following problem.

At the moment we export our songs from cubase as wavs (16 bit, 44khz) and then later convert them to mp3 in order to upload them to places like myspace.
This has has worked fine until recently when we discovered a dramatic loss in sound quality. Specifically, the percussion sounds such as hi-hat and tambourine become twangy and squilchy sounding. We have tried various alternative processes but can’t seem to solve the problem.
Can any one help?

thanks!!!

Convert Wav file to Mp3 using any audio, Mp3 editing and converting software. I suggest you to try with http://www.fleximusic.com/waveditor/overview.htm . Whatever may be the conversions (either Mp3 to wav or wav to Mp3) and at each time of conversion there is sure a small quality lose, when it is repeated many time it accumulates and audible.

You can't upload the .wav because it contains so much information the file size is too large so obviously to convert it to .mp3 will lose something because it cuts the file size to something that can be uploaded quickly. When you convert to .mp3 make sure you are looking at the settings, try changing the bit rate to 192Kbps or even 320Kbps that should be good enough for your needs. You were probably converting at 128Kbps or less.

Oh and once you upload it to myspace etc. they will probably re-encode it and it will be further compressed so do it at as higher quality as you can.

arrow survived

Hi everybody!
we did survive the concert! we were pretty nervous at first, but we made it to the end of the show. it was at a cinema, and they were showing films at the same time, so we couldn´t be as loud as we wanted, but anyway, i was quite happy with the result. 400 people there! good practice
will keep in touch
