question Please help me start recording!!!

I'm pretty keen to start recording my music and multitrack it. I play a variety of acoustic and electric instruments plus vocals.

However, I know next to nothing about recording. I've been told the basics to buy are a mixing desk, software and microphone but I don't know how much I should be spending on this sort of equipment to get a good sound in a budget threshold.

I've been looking at the Behringer UB2222fx mixing desk (as this seems to have pretty good reviews for such a cheap price) and Cubase SE.

Am I looking at the right stuff???

Will a mixing desk plug straight into my sound card, which has 1 small line in port, and be able to record more that one track at a time???

Are there any good USB mixing desks???

Are there any good websites for newbies like me???

Many thanks for any help I get...

Welcome to the site

Your gonna need a new soundcard. Budget around £150 - £200 for that alone.

Sopmething like this one should be OK but if you can afford better then go for it.

Sequencing wise i'd go for Cubase SX3

Microphones - for recording vocals you'll need a Condensor mic. You can get some OK ones for around £100, but again if you can afford better go for it.

This one dont look too bad for the price:

remember when getting a mic you'll need a pop sheild and a proper stand to get a good quality recording. Pop sheilds and stands are around £20 each.

I dont know too much about mixing desks as i dont really use them (ive got a Phonic power pod 760 but only really use it as a power amp).

Hope that helps. The soundcard is a very important part of it. Your only as bad as your weakest link. Make sure to get good quality interconnects too.

Try SAW32 and your current mic. Saw32 has most of the recording goodies to get you off the ground, since you play your own instruments - Good Luck!

Default Budget

That version of cubase is pretty out of my budget. Will I be able to get away with the SE version?

Do you know anything about CAD microphones as they seem to have pretty good reviews and are quite cheap?

So all I need is a soundcard, sequencing software, mixing desk, microphone and stands etc... Will that get me started?

Thanks for your help...
