Default orange vocoder help

i use the orange vocoder plug-in with cubase vst32 5 on pc.i was wondering if i can get the sound to change pitch cos at the moment it atays at one pitc the whole time.i like the digitized effect but i dont want to lose the actual pitch chages in the vocal im using.is there any way to get the same effect without affecting the pitch too much or is there any other plugins i could use?

From my experience with it I dont think you can. Whenever I use it I always set it to the key of the track and use sparingly.

Ive found its hardware vocoders that let you play the sound (ie Vocals) like a synth via MIDI.

are you sure you can't control the pitch via MIDI?

I haven't used Orange in ages and am not at the studio, but I swear you could do this...maybe it was a different plugin...

Because, that's the whole point of vocoding....vocoding actually works best when the vocals and the carrier signal change pitch at the same time.

Orange Vocoder PC version doesn't support chord/pitch changing via midi, Mac Orange Vocoder does! Prosoniq has been promising a version 2 for Orange PC (which will have pitch/chord change via midi) since last year, but alas, hasn't seen the light of day yet. If you're using Cubase 32/5, update it to version 5.1 and you should have a free and functional Vocoder plug-in with it (made by MDA). It sounds crappy though compared to Orange but you can control it via midi and it's free!

BTW, actually, you can control chord changes on the Orange PC by using automation instead of midi. Haven't done it but on the Orange manual (or was it some magazine?) it states that you could manually change the chords by using track automation.

Using track automation makes sense...you'd just tell the vocoder to change state.

BTW...

GO MACS!

uh-oh... you just instigated an ole Mac vs PC flame war!

Well, my 2 cents... (software-wise)

Reasons why i'd choose PC over Macs:
1) Nuendo (Mac version is buggy compared to PC)
2) Cubase SX
3) Wavelab
4) Sonic Foundry products
5) two mouse clicks

Reasons why i'd choose Max over PC
1) Digital Performer
2) Emagic software
3) stability?

Default I don't normally get involved but ...

Some reasons I choose Mac over PC

(i) Every Pro studio has one (some have PC too but you'll always find Macs).

(ii) I've worked with Macs for 12 years, in that time I've only seen one or two suffer hardware problems and the last place I worked at had 60 Macs working 24 hrs a day for years and years. These are the most reliable computers you can buy, without question.

(iii) Your Mac becomes your friend

Mac users also don't understand why PC advocates make such a fuss about computers they choose not to use - in contrast to Mac users who don't need to justify why they use their machines with clock speeds and cost. If you're serious about getting the most out of your creativity you don't worry about an extra few hundred quid.

Other Mac users know what I'm talking about. PC advocates just use their computer as a tool, the Mac has SOUL. No $$$$.
