Default :( nothing ever goes right for me (help needed please!)

Dam ive got another problem. In cubase when I record stuff it will record for a bit and then stop, but it wont TELL me it stops, so ill be hapily recording and it all looks OK, but when ive finished ill check the audio file and only a bit will be there. Its not like its the same amount each time either.... :S:S:S please help!

Also, i dont know if this problem is related to that but cubase is destroying my files! ill record a file and put it into cubase, its all going nicely and ill make the start of a tune. Ill save it and come back later but the audio file i have done will be blank in cubase, as if i had just drawn it with the pencil tool! when i try and open this file on the desktop it says the file is corrupted. It doesnt just happen when i save and quit either. sometimes it just does it at random points.

help would be much appriciated. thanks

I think I might concur with sen and ODC and ask........are you using a crack!

But, sometimes cubase will terminate recording, but carry on playing which might explain your first problem. This usually happens if it reaches the right marker or if it runs out of drive space (or drive speed). Does the red record light turn off, but the play light stay on?

On the second problem, are you sure that you are using sample/bit rates that are the same as your cubase session?

Also, save all your audio files for one pice of music in the same folder, it can prevent the lost audio file problem and make things a lot tidier.

Well yes i am using a crack, and i also have not much space left on my computer. I have been told to free up some space so i am defragmenting it as we speak.

Well don't expect cracks to work properly!!!!!!!! Go out and buy a copy, at least that way you can phone the helpline.

See whether a defrag works. I only ever keep my hard drives a maximum of two thirds full for decent performance. Once you get to the last 10% you wll definately notice a decrease in the performance, especially if it's the same drive your software is on.

in fact, you should have a dedicated audio drive if you want to have a reliable system.

I have 2 80 gig hard drives. I'm thinking about getting another smaller one (that takes a shorter time to defrag) to be my audio only work-in-progress drive...then I can use the other ones to archive/have the programs.

I've had that sample rate problem before - was playing back in 48KHz and was only set up to transmit @ 44.1KHz...nice and messed up

It's also good to have drives on different interfaces. I place drives on firewire, IDE, and two SCSI channels and spread the audio over them for maximum performance.
