Default Modules for UKG bass?

Which modules are commonly used in UKG to get that wobbly bass sound?

I'm thinking of producers as Wookie, DnD, Sticky, Platinum 45.

I'm particulary interesten in what Wookie uses, since his bass parts always sound really gritty.

I've heard of a module called Novation basstation.

Anyone know if it's good?

Cheers

Get the Novation Superbasstation. It's a analogue synth with loads of knobs so you can get those weird sounds. And it's all MIDI controllable. Fairly cheap second hand, look on sound-on-sound.co.uk

Soft synths like da ES1 (dats wat I make me bass sounds on) r wicked.. try n get a copy of junglist.. mostly dnb bass sounds but dats how ukg came about innit.. da Korg MS2000 has really sweet bass sounds n so does da Virus (which u can get as a keyboard now too)

ES1 ain't that bad.. ok it might b limited n 9/10 times da sounds sound very cheesy but u can make a few nice sweepin bass sounds.. I would try gettin me head round absynth but dat kills me CPU faster than a R-Compressor.. I would get da ES2 if I had logic 5

I was told it only works on logic 5? I kno it don't work on me 4.7 cos I tried loadin in a copy.

Da ES1 is only good 4 a few bass sounds but if u drop effects over even da dull sounds u can get some nice layerin (dats wat I ment 2 say b4 lol

ps. been tryin 2 get me head round absynth now.. bass sounds don't seem to take up dat much CPU n dats with a EVP88 runnin n 22 EXS24s I make me beats like: 1 EXS for Kicks n so on...

look, basically, there is no such thing as a decent bass sound in current garage music now. It's all done on $$$$ software like reason and fruityloops. You might as well sample your mums fart and use it for bass, cos all the thick $$$$s buying the records will probably still love it anyway.

i half blame it on Wookies Scrappy in 1999? or 2000? cos kids have been tryna make similar basses ever since and failing. But totally agree anyway. Pulse x bass? LOL. Eskimo bass? LOL.....

oi Fat Zed, i BEG u tell me how to make oldskool basses:

marimba?
xylo/vibra/glockenspiel (from Tumblin Down) ?
the bass from Fierce - So Long, or Y tribe - Ill get over you -- its like a xylo/vibra etc bass, but has a deep and "plucking" sound to it. Maybe thats just to do with attack and filter on it. ANyway, any help appreciated.

You can use a sub bass sound (sine etc) with a filtered Vibe over the top to give it some punch. Maybe.

That bass on Scappy was heavy, but lots of people now aren't even bothering trying to get squelchy sounds. They just get a distorted bass and play a couple of low notes, then a couple of high notes.

I'm going to do the first 8-bar tune with a DJ Trace style hoover! Heh heh heh...

DND have a NordLead in their studio, amongst other things.

Reason and Fruityloops can be used to make good songs, but remember that your songs are only as good as the sound sources. Even the best post-processing can't make $$$$ turn to gold.

The synthesis on either of those is pretty limited on most points. However, it doesn't mean that you can't write a decent track on them.

BTW, the Roland 5080 is a sweeeeeeet piece of gear for a ROMpler...USB interface, GUI...everything that was lacking from units like the original 1080/2080 series. + expandability out the wazoo and decent effects. THis series, however, contains likely the most overused sounds in modern music With the new interface, hopefully more people will program the sounds vs. use the stock patches.

thanks PR. Im okay with sub basses. I can even get a sub bass to LFO/pitch down mid way thru playing.

My main focus now, well, one of, is them marimba basses. Wideboys - (damn, forgot tune, had a 2 step and 4/4 mix), tumbling down, y tribe, fierce... I jus need to know how its made or a VST to make it. I know Ill have to sync it to a subbass later etc etc.

After that, Im after this analogue bass I think its called. Then, KeyDub bass. then I'll be occupied for a while.

marimba basses aren't that tough...you need to layer a lower pitch marimba sample/synth sound (there are some in Reason - that's what you're using, right? - that aren't half bad) with a sub and keep it short and stabby almost.

Analogue bass could describe an infinite number of sounds...

KeyDub...will have to go listen to it again.

And Qwest is right...that song's bassline is the lick of marimba basses

boooooooooooo@Qwest. Thats the one.

Yeah Sen, I am using reason (well stopped until I get a faster PC, but Im still "on reason", if u get me). Anyway, I cant see any marimba sounds in reason! I see a xylophone but thats as close as I can get - thats lookin in the NN19 patches.

Maybe u mean lookin in the subtractor folder? Can u guide me there like a dummy please

SUBT>RSN SND BANK>MONOSYNTHS>BLA BLA

etc?

thx
