If you actually want to get a job in music production related areas, I suggest you wait. All these courses may be fun, but they do nothing to help you get a job. I didn't do any music tech untill I was already running a small studio, when I did a Masters degree in it.

I would suggest that you either get a job as a tea boy at a studio somewhere or do a degree in business studies. If you work as a tea/errand boy, you'll still be skint for 3 years like you would at uni, but you'll have more of a chance of getting a job at the end. If you do a business studies degree, you'll be well set up to work self employed as a producer etc and you'll have transferrable skills should things not go so well.

Remember, these studio related courses are very new and people did perfectly well before they were around. There is nothing you will learn at a course that you can't teach yourself as long as you put in plenty of effort.

I taught music tech a-level last year. you may be in for a bit of a shock. The guy who writes the course seems to think that music tech isn't valid unless you put loads of music theory in it. So there's quite a lot of composition, arrangement etc. You also split most stuff into two style, classical music and pop rock+ jazz. Beware though, there's no opportunities for making any sort of dance music in it apart from the odd project in A2.

You will be putting mozart into cubase and arranging tunes for a string quartet.

i just finished my first year on a music tech course.mine was a btec national diploma.the first year is very very $$$$ but the second year should make up for it.as long as you stick out the first year its ok.be prepared to see alot of ppl walk straight off the course when they find out what they are really gonna be doing.they think they will jump straight into a top of the range studio when in actual fact they will sit you down at a half decent computer and a keyboard and teach you about chords and arrangement.im so glad my first year is over!!!!!
