I'm clueless - please help

They suggest going for the barebone PC and building it up to your specification. I'm so clueless, could somebody please let me know what I need/ought to add to the basic shell?

Yep, as it will leave you with the option of buying the soundcard and software you want to use. The only problem is that they might be a nightmare to install and to get working properly.

On the other hand if you want something that you can use straight away then be prepared to spend some cash.

You may want to get a second harddrive installed so you can keep your recorded audio seperate from your software applications.
