trust me, you dont need all that. you dont need more than one sampler and some would argue you should just use the computer for that.

It's fishy when you're spending about 50 G and going to mix on Mackie monitors???? Skip the extra samplers and get a pro pair of monitors.

If you are experienced, you don't need to ask this question?

If you aren't experienced, just buy kit one piece at a time, learning how to use it, then buying something to fill in the gaps that you find yourself lacking in.

P.S. Why do you need three desks? Perhaps you could save a few thousand pounds by buying a patchbay? Also, do you plan to record drums with 3 condenser mics?

Default Whoa!!!

That's a whole lotta manuals you have to read on my friend...I second DJ Fat Zed, if you're experienced, then you shouldn't even be asking this question, if you are then I would go for the Yamaha A3000 for a sampler and do away witht he Akai S6000 and S3000. But if you got all that cash to spend, why don't you get a Yamaha A5000 which has a more improved functionality than the buggy A3000 or even a A3000V2 or A4000? But then again, the Akai's are more easier to use and also take in consideration that the vast number of third party sample CDs are in Akai formats! But then again, why not go for an EMU or something, it reads Akai formatted CDs better than the Yamahas or maybe go software and get Gigasampler or HALion? I would get an MPC too if I had the cash BTW. Now computers, i'm not sure if the new G4 macs has built-in CDRw's or something (i'm using PC), so I would do away with the DAT and stand-alone CDRW. Maybe you need the laptop to go mobile... have you considered a soundcard for that too? How 'bout a MOTU firewire or something or maybe an RME Multiface so you could interface that well with your Mackie DB8 mixer. Sequencers... Logic and Cubase? Why both when you could use one? They both get the job done very well so choose only one. Why only Cubase 5.0? You could go for Cubase VST 32/5 or maybe Nuendo which is better if you gonna do alot of audio rather than midi. Nuendo has basic midi functionality but you could always sequence your tracks on the MPC too. What about the "industry standard" Protools? That's another consideration if you think compatibility. SoundForge... uuummm... nice app but if your'e getting Cubase, go with Wavelab 3.0! It's much faster! You could even wait for Wavelab 4.0 for better functionality! Sound modules... I have a JV-1080 with 4 expansion boards, it's great, but why skimp on a JV, when you can get a XV-5080 which also has sampling capability and more expansion slots! I say skip the Proteus and Mo Phat...and go ahead, go get the JV! It's more than enuff! You gonna need a patchbay of some sort and a whole lot of cables. And don't even think this is not important at all. Great cables/snakes (you could roll them yourself, if you do get mogami cables and neutrik connectors) will make your recordings sound better IMHO. So don't skimp on that... You could do better than the Mackie monitors so go down to your local music shop and test every monitors they got. You have to be comfortable with your monitors! Don't ask me 'bout mics, I don't know s*** on it!
Now... whew... if you're unexperienced... DJ Fat Zed is right again. Just buy one kit at a time. maybe go get the G4 and Cubase 32/5. Add Propellerhead's Reason and LEEAARRRNNN the ins and outs. Reason is a great tool coz its very educational. You get samplers, a mixer, an analog synth, a drum machine and a whole lot more. That's all you really need to make your own Garage tunes! Goodluck my friend, and make sure you get enuff time to do what you ultimately want, and that is to make music!!! PEACE!

Default Oh yeah... BTW

You gonna need some sort of power supply/conditioner. With all that equiptment, you need a good power distributor. Also may I suggest a rack to rackmount all your soundmodules and samplers. Makes it tidy and organized for better work ergonomics!

I hope you realize you're going to be spending a ton of cash on cabling alone

best of luck!

geezus.

Well, have fun with it and write nuff hits!

That's a small fortune!

Once everything's said and done, I'd expect it to be more than that if you're getting a solid sound booth done etc.

Forget the A3000 and go for the A4000 or A5000. The sound quality is much better (24 bit as opposed to 16 bit only), you get more effects and filter options. Plus their interfaces are LCD which is easier on the eye than the two line display of the A3000.

And you can upgrade operating system using a floppy disk rather than installing a new chip as in the A3000. I don't think Yamaha bothered upgrading the OS for the A3000 beyond version 2 -hence the introduction of the A4000 and A5000.
