Default How Do U .......................

Swing / Shuffle the beat on Cubase so the track sounds much skippier and less House / US G (eg. Ol skool sounding UK G stuff - i kno some up to date tracks still have the swing in em tho')

I've got a 4/4 track i'm fixing up now and it sounds v.good but it sounds more housey than UK G so please help guys !!

use logic because cubase's quanitsations and swings are naff and mathmatical... i swear cubase was written for tekno heads or sommit.

or you can do what i do and swing everything by hand...

I add shuffle, then play around for hours making the beats just right.

A great way to do it is using recycle.

Get a beat that you like the groove of in recycle and go into preview toggle mode and get the slice points just right. Export the midi file required to play the samples for the loop. Then import that midifile into cubase and extract a groove template from it.

You can do the same in logic and DP I think.

It's sometimes known as the Stevie Wonder effect because Jamiroquai used to take stevie wonder riffs and use this technique to apply his playing feel to their own stuff. I think it even went to court over copyrights.

Ha, that's my other secret weapon - Groove Template Quantize...what a wonderful tool.

It may not sound right with your sounds, depending on where/how close you cut things to the beat...if you have any beats with silence after the cut/before the hit, your timing will be thrown off if you use hits that are different.

But a great way to get "that feel" without a ton of work.
