Default Cubase and all that...

I wanna get into making music. I got a s**t program on my PC which was very cheap and haven't really used it again since the first week I bought it.

I was in Dixons today and they had Cubasis VST 4.0 for £60 or £70, and they had Cake Walk for about £50 or £60.

To all you music makers out there:
What program do you use and why?
What do you think is the BEST program out there?
What is the best value for money program?
Which is the newest (decent) program out at the moment?
Is it necessary to have a keyboard to work with?

Whether you are producer or not, your opinions on the above questions is very welcomed.

Thanx!

I use CubaseSX, Why? It's the $$$$ing $$$$, all you could ask for visual sequencing, along with logic, but im still learning that as that one is more for gear heads.

I honestly dont know what the best "program" is out there, but to me it's SX, It does all that I want and need, aside from the CPU constraints. Alot of people here in america rant and rave about ProTools and I have yet to use it yet, so I dont know, it's a matter of opinion really.

I know people will cuss this, but the best value for your money program is Fruityloops, It's an amazing little program with tons of features to make music with, must have. For the price it does what reason does.

What is the difference between CubaseSX and Logic from what you've experienced?

And do you use a keyboard?

There are big and minro differnces, just the layout and functions in general, cubase is a bit more direct and logic is a bit more raw,

I use a midi keyboard, yeah

Cheers.

Anybody else have any opinions on these programs mentioned and how much I should be looking at (in £s)?

This link tells you a bit more about it.

Thanks. That website has a lot of info.

They are more products out there than I thought, and the professional editions are expensive. If I were to make a proper tune to put out in the record shops, would I necessarily need a professional edition of music making software? Or are the home versions good enough???

You can get the previous version of fruity loops (3.5 i think) for about £150 now, but you'll have to look around to find it. Its nearly as good as the latest version. You will get everything you need to start making tunes.
