Course Duration: Saturday & Sunday - One Weekend
The music business has changed... a new breed of bands, artists and musicians are using home recordings and savvy new media techniques to build up a world-wide fan base - essential for getting noticed by the record and publishing companies.
From The Arctic Monkeys demos being passed around in chat rooms to Lily Allen’s huge pre-contract hits on Myspace, there has recently been a massive promotional power shift away from the corporate companies back to the artists themselves, taking charge and building their own fan base from their bedroom PCs.
Sandy Thom’s daily live web-cam gigs from her basement early in 2006 ended up reaching 70,000 people via global word of mouth and within weeks she had signed to RCA Records in what they called the first ‘web-cast signing’ in music business history.
The Course
This brand new, unique course at Manchester Midi School runs over a weekend at our city centre studios. The course is designed for small groups, ideal for all up and coming bands with a need to demo some songs and have the desire to break into the music business.
You and your band mates will start by learning the essentials of recording so you can build toward recording at home using multitracking on your home PC. Then you will actually record a demo in the studio learning everything you need to know along the way. You also look at the industry - how you and your band can get out there, build a name for yourselves using the internet and utalise what is known on the street as ‘Guerilla marketing’ techniques.
The Course Tutors
The Band Development Course is delivered by a team of industry professionals with decades worth of experience but who stay right on the cutting edge of the underground music scene - all successful artists and producers in their own right.
