Default At what point would you think your good enuff to release/press?

I been seeing so much "u shud get this pressed" stuff and Im just wondering, why do u think ur tunes are ready for pressing yet? What do u class as finished?

What new will ur tunes bring to the UKG scene?

I'm a music freak really.. I love real music (motown, ray charles etc.) n as I ain't musically trained in anyway it's gonna b a long time b4 I can make da stuff dats in my head.. that's unless I can find peeps who wanna do some free guitar, sax etc. 4 me tunes then I might b able 2 faster

"What new will ur tunes bring to the UKG scene?" - hopefully the soul dat it lost a long time ago but up dated, u get me?

One u've hit a point where u can't take ya tune anywhere extra then it's finished.. It's up 2 u if u think it's good enuff 2 get pressed.

I am workin on a 4 Track Ep at the mo tho.. I have da tracks basic idea there (8 or 16 bar loops at da mo)

I have:

1) Miami Bass style ukg tune with rhodes playin some funky ness and scratchs n some guitar samples I found

2) 4/4 tune with a bit of a blues feel 2 it.. sounds a bit cheesy at da mo so I might add some bluesy style piano

3) dunno wat dis 1 would count as but it's a smooth breaky style tune with just rhodes n a bit of sub bass 2 push it along

4) 2 Step but not.. It's a rmx of a RnB tune with a 2stepy beat n rhodes (again! I love rhodes n a nice rollin b-line (lovely sound.. off a moog ohhh

Only reason I'm doin a 4track Ep is cos I think £8.99 for a 1 sided promo is wrong!

I usually question when people go: "got an oldskool feel but updated", cos it usually doesnt sound oldskool at all, but Ill be the judge of that when u post ur clips

how r u gonna get the hook ups/studio/mastering and what software r u using?

Feeling ready is the hardest thing, Over the last 2 years I have felt i'm ready, in many different intervals of my production career. The thing is when I look back at many of my productions, I wasn't ready, but at the time felt I was.
My advice to any producer is, sit on your work, then access it 1 month later, and see if you feel the same way. I now know i'm ready because my productions sound like the good records that are out.
I think Djaguk asked this question because, he listens to productions on this site, that are sub standard, but another person says "you should get this pressed", which leaves him confused ?

Well when I mean old skool I mean in da sense of how the instruments r played and layed out.. I just made da beat more now.. n da overal sound engineerin of it is 'now' 2 (altho I ain't used any compression yet)

I'm gonna try gatin the drums n see if dat sorts them cos there's something not right n I can't quite work it out.. that or I'm just bein really hard on me self again lol

I run Logic 4.7.. I want 5 cos da automation is so bate on my version.. all dis playback business Have a keyboard n some nice samples n nuff VSTs n VSTis (inc. Wave plug-ins.. lush

I kno nuff peeps n I've done stuff in da past which I co produced on with a old mate at his studio:

Freek Your Mind ft. MC Hyperactive n Bing

The Garden ft Gary B n Elisabeth Troy

dis was b4 I could get me dam midi 2 run smoothly at home tho so I had say on da tunes n a tiny bit of hands on u get me.. he didn't kno anything about ukg really so me input was da finished tunes as such

If ya chattin about studio 4 da engineerin then there's no point.. I ain't spent da last 3/4months on a sound engineerin course 4 nothing u kno 2 lessons nx week.. at least we don't have 2 chat about balanced n unbalanced leads again like 2day almost as excitin as archivin lol

I ain't gonna b able 2 put out stuff 4 a while anywayz cos I'm poor but if I can get some more music 4 TV work (finger X'ed 4 2morrows meetin) then I'll see if I can get enuff 4 the Master n Cut (about £180) n pressin which is £650 inc vat for 500 around about.

Music is a $$$$$ when it comes to tryin 2 make it.. but I ain't gonna sell out n make piss easy beat n b-line 2 make me name.. that ain't me!

breaker - ur right. totally baffled
smooth k - booooo. ur about the only person whos actually giving this some thought. u kno what compression and mixin down is, u dont use 1 lil dry program (e.g. all the fruity heads on here downloadin it off kazaa or something), and ur lookin to make MUSIC, not ride this $$$$ bass and no drums ukg bandwagon.

U shouldn't be able to release tunes without taking grade 5 theory first.

Says who ??

A lot of producers including DJ Face and Jameson haven't had no qualified training in learning how to produce there tracks (in the past) and they sound really good .

I'm learning with a mate of mine who teaches Music Tech @ college etc (and another one of my mate who kno's who his way around the studio) ...........

So theyr teaching me all the tricks and how to mix down as i'm keen to find out how to do that properly tru a digital mixer etc .

I've dun college courses b4 and i think they go around the bend too much without getting to the ponit !!

As Smooth Kriminal (one of me best mates) kno's i like making the bumpy side, sexy side of UK G (along with also some R'n'B) and i do kno a lot of things about the the way how to make music properly but i do want to make sure that i FULLY kno my way around a studio first - i'm kinda comfortable but still think i need to still kno a lot more than i do now .

As for when to release stuff that i do - i'd say when i'm fully think that i'm ready and without rushing myself (i think i will kno when that is ......... i'll just kno and it anit now LOL)

I also say the while knowing ur way around a studio is essential putting a good amount of work into a track is just as nessesary to making it sound and do good

Some ppl haven't noticed this hence y there is a lot of $$$$ around at the mo'

The ones that do kno this, i don't think judge the quality control of there stuff b4 they release it or they will kno it's not all that !! (e.g. Agent X and DJ Wire to name a few producers who have got degree's in Music Tech or are studying it in college, uni etc and r still making $$$$ tracks !!) .

Too many ppl on ere and on in general are releasing stuff that could do with a bit more work on it b4 it should go to the pressing plant .

I anit gonna be one of them .... when my stuff is ready it will be produced properly 100% by me !!

U kno dat Bro

I'm still havin probs with dat 4/4 tune.. I've sorted da drums now.. 1 of da open hi hats just needed 2b boosted 3.5 at 2200Hz n paned a bit more left.. it's da rhodes.. they sound warm but in mono they sit 2 far back in da mix.. I'm gonna have 2 bounce da rhodes down so I can bypass the EVP88 2 free up some cpu so I can see if it sounds better compressed or with it's own reverb. Long ting!

Iwas just wondering if ya run all your comp/rev fx throuh as sends

instead of seperate line.

Probably obvious but if you havnt ,this would free up a lot of cpu

just wondered geez

Yer I do run them as sends.. I have 2 trueverbs, 1 R-Compressor (+1 for me bass too but it ain't on a bus), 1 Tape delay, 1 Stereo Delay n a Phazer on my busses. Waves true verb n r-compressors love CPU but I have 2 use them cos they're da warmest 1z I have.. ain't a big fan of logics reverbs n compressors which take up less CPU.

If I had a TC Powercore card, all me problems would b solved but since when is life gonna b so kind 2 give me £800 to get 1 lol

u chattin about ol' reading boy ah da wonders of pumpin out en old $$$$ 2 make money..

Mez on a mish.. I've been playin away with da Smooth Breaky ting off me ep.. got sick of da 4/4 1 now so I'll leave it 4 now. Almost MJ esc but not dat good... I wish I got rhodes n sax (not bad 4 a keyboard played 1 lol) n a bit of bass dat just rolls off tha groove here and there..

I would post up me stuff but as I don't have da net at home n use da 1 at da library (lookin 4 stuff 2 put in me portfoilo 4 me course work mostly.. just skip through da forums when I'm bored I'm unable 2 upload tunes 4 peeps 2 listen 2.. even me mate It's A Naturel Thing ain't even heard en of me stuff 4 like a yr I think it is now.

It's as much of pain 2 me as havin 2 do all me tunes in headphones now cos peeps in da room all da time n me mum havin da dam TV on.. how I'm expected 2 engineer in headphones!! u can't.. it's impossible unless u have really really really good pro studio headphones but even then it's better 2 use speakers.

I don't mind makin me tunes in headphones tho.. not good 4 me ears tho

Nuff of me moanin.. I might b able 2 get a aol thing soon 4 free so next month I might finally get 2 post some tunage.

I took grade 5 theory. Failed it twice but nonetheless took it.

It all depends on your concept. Pulse X started off as a dubplate and sold 10,000 copies so your opinion differs on what deserves to be released. I say only release it when your satisfied with it yourself, but don't expect it to sell automatically.

Like I said b4.. it's down 2 when u can't add en more 2 the tune n it's up 2 u if u feel it's releaseable.. with pulse x tho, it should of been left at Pulse X n move on to something different.. dunno about u but I could never do wat most of these producers do at tha mo n make an update of a tune but just takin out a kick or addin a different bass sound etc.. I get sick of tunes I make after a couple of days then come back 2 them a week or 2 later 2 add bits or take out bits.. u need 2 keep fresh with tunes or u can just end up over doin it!

How u doin enway Trila Zila?
I'm sure I heard u MCin on dis Breaky soundin tune with an Asian female singer on it yesterday while I was on a break from me course.. sounded so much like u.. en ideas? might not b u but worth askin

who thinks Sticky is also guilty of changing the snare, resaving and selling another 3000 copies?
