Have you noticed that pop music has really declined over the last couple of years? I am not talking about the quality of music, but the number of pop acts. We used to have the Spice Girls, Busted, Take That, East 17... the list goes on...

Is pop dead? What do you think and how is this affecting the music industry?
”

Well that is dead music! In the UK yes pop has gone down with Top Of The Pops, but in Europe TOTP is going strong. Want to know why???

I totally agree. Think about it. Pop stands for POPULAR music. Basically anything that makes the top 20 qualifies.
Take for example the pop tunes that have been released over the recent years. They have often incorporated other styles whilst still maintaining their (and i use this term loosely) pop credibility.

E.g. Sound of the Underground - Girls Aloud Have a good listen as there is a prominent D&B loop running throughout. My m8 has it on vinyl and mixes it with Jungle choons!

Blue - Often had elements of hip hop/r&b with rapping in their songs.

Anyhow loads of pop artsts are going strong - Sugababes, Simon Webbe, Jojo etc.

'Manufactured crap' ?? and no, I didnt check out the link because I really dont care about any of those artists and whats going on down in Europe. Im jus' trying to say that boybands like US5, Take That and Westlife are really trying o bring back Pop to the UK and I personally think that they will be able too. If Pop is still alive everywhere else in the world, why should it be dead here?

POP stands for Popular music so could be anything that the majority of people like, so POP can never be dead.
But it's up to you if you wish to remain both blind and deaf. I gave you a link to one of the best girls bands (no nothing like what you imagine!) in the World today and they are something very special!

Their name is Vanilla Ninja.
Here is a newer link -

Click the link and you will see! There is nothing in it for me - it's all there for you.

i think classic pop has died on it's arse a little, maybe because indie and singer/songwriter music is pretty much the 'new pop'. there's loads of new bands coming through like grace, air traffic and ghosts, but then also look at people like madonna and kylie... whilst artists like them are still going pop will never be dead.

Default Is pop dead or just commercialised

I think pop has not died, it's just been commercialised and has too much interference from marketers, publicist and cost accountants. I think that TV talent shows don’t help, they are looking for a commercial product therefore tries to pigeonhole artist into commercially defined sectors. Of course these shows cannot show an artist singing a really radical song, it would not be politically correct. And lets face it, these so called expert judges are just people like us with likes and dislikes, so whose to say your opinion is not as good as theirs.

Yes I totally agree. But I think most what is out there now is rubbish!
What's annoying is that there is some very good music out there in Europe and in English, but it is never gettting through to us here. Of course I would prefer this to be British but like everything we have been out done.
For example check out a band named 'Vanilla Ninja'.
A girl band with a difference - one of the best singers in the World today Lenna Kuurmaa. But have you even heard of her???
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanilla_Ninja

Looking at your heart beat radio I see the top 10 typical rubbish. Try looking on YouTube.com and you may find some freshing new bands. Check out Vanilla Ninja.
