Default Whole Sky Monitor

New single Cinenema (Axis of Evil Remix) released May 26th!!!

More sonic shock and awe from the Leeds (UK) anti-popsters Whole Sky Monitor

Cinenema Axis of Evil mix is the 2nd single taken from their critically acclaimed album Bland Bland Bland which was played on national radio stations across Europe, by Steve Lamacq in the UK and on various college stations in the US.

1. Cinenema - Sex, Sin, Chimp rescue centre, Degradation, Obey. (The new mix racks up the controlled psychosis).
2. Sick Sick Sick - Britain’s favourite leisure activity.
3. N.O. - Leaving the house without opening the door.

Cinenema was produced by Matt Elliss

Whole Sky Monitor will be playing selected shows in May / June to support Cinenema’s release.

Cinenema will be distributed online via I.O.D.A

The Resplendents
At the heart of this 8-piece is a rhythm section inspired by the funk and soul of Detroit and Memphis but with one foot firmly planted in Yorkshire. Rich vocal harmonies and duelling saxes combine to create a super smooth silky soul sound that swings us into the Saturday sunset.

The Bight

At low tide like this how sheer the water is.

White, crumbling ribs of marl protrude and glare

and the boats are dry, the pilings dry as matches,

Absorbing, rather than being absorbed,

the water in the bight doesn't wet anything,

the color of the gas flame turned as low as possible.

One can smell it turning to gas; if one were Baudelaire

one could probably hear it turning to marimba music.

The little ocher dredge at work off the end of the dock

already plays the dry perfectly off-beat claves.

The birds are outsize. Pelicans crash

into this peculiar gas unnecessarily hard.

it seems to me, like pickaxes,

rarely coming up with anything to show for it,

and going off with humorous elbowings,

Black-and-white man-of-war birds soar

on impalpable drafts

and open their tails like scissors on the curves

or tense them like wishbones, till they tremble.

The frowsy sponge boats keep coming in

with the obliging air of retrievers,

bristling with jackstraw gaffs and hooks

and decorated with bobbles of sponges.

There is a fence of chicken wire along the dock

where, glinting like little plowshares,

the blue-gray shark tails are hung up to dry

for the Chinese-restaurant trade.

Some of the little white boats are still piled up

against each other, or lie on their sides, stove in,

and not yet salvaged, if they ever will be, from the last bad storm.

like torn-open, unanswered letters.

the bight is littered with old correspondences.

Click. Click. Goes the dredge,

and brings up a dripping jawful of marl.

All the untidy activity continues,

awful but cheerful.

The Moorings is delighted to welcome back Aberdonian
punk legends Toxik Ephex for a rare one off show. On the
go since 1980, they play politically driven spikey-haired
protest folk punk, “with a twist of Irn-Bru”. They’ve played
most notably with the Deak Kennedys, UK Subs & SLF’s.

Oi, Smash It Up! I know you’re from Sweden, but what do
you sound like? “All School Punk! We're a straight up
PUNK band! We play the music we wanna listen to... All
School Streetcore Punk Rock! Dead, Jail or Punkrock!”

Whole Sky Monitor: twin-guitar existential kitchen-sink
dramatists of anti-pop notability from Leeds. “Huge,
Hulking Anti-Pop,” says Steve Lamacq, and he should know
a thing or two about it. This’ll be their second show here.

On the 7th day, God rested. Cobra Kai took over and were
influenced bu Muse, RATM, The Cure, Alice In Chains, The
Pixies, Audioslave and Mudhoney. Now here they are,
playing the Moorings Bar. And where’s God? Exactly.
