When it comes to dancing in fields, the county of Kent can hold more tales than most. During the late 80’s the farms of Kent played host to some of the greatest musicians of recent times. One such act included the Happy Mondays who return to the county to perform live for the first time in almost twenty years. Led by the inspirational Shaun Ryder and his maraca-shaking-sidekick Bez, the Mondays will be performing the classics that helped them achieve legendary status, in addition to new material from their long awaited comeback album (their first LP in fifteen years!). The completely-sold-out Glastonbury and V Festivals are the only other UK festivals the Mondays are performing at this year and with tickets to their upcoming UK tour similarly being snapped up in minutes, this is your only chance in 2007 to witness the Mondays at their influential and exceptional best, and the Madchester massive will be bringing the whole festival to a close on the Sunday night.

Living young, free and keeping their teeth nice and clean, the second headliner for Electric Gardens 2007 is another band who’ll be bringing back the spirit of 1990’s indie music; Supergrass. Comprising of Gaz Coombes, Danny Goffey, Mick Quinn and Rob Coombes, Supergrass are without doubt one of the most highly regarded and accomplished live bands in the UK, with music that’s full of life and full of energy. Their unique sound will fit perfectly with the exclusive setting of Mount Ephraim, as Supergrass show yet again why they have become one of the most decorated British groups of our generation. Electric Gardens comes to life on Saturday 4th August, as the campers flee their tents for their first live music fix of the weekend. With headliners Supergrass playing last, there’ll be plenty of outrageously good music to soak up throughout the day as we welcome some of the most exciting bands of today to the beautiful Mount Ephraim Gardens. Dance music’s newest sensation Calvin Harris is one such example. On stage before Supergrass, the Scotsman’s debut single ‘Acceptable in the 80s’ has become something of a modern day masterpiece, reaching No.10 in the UK charts, with follow up number ‘The Girls’ going the same way. He’s been asked to work on Kylie Minogue’s new album no less and recently supported Faithless on their huge UK tour. Still on the electro tip, Calvin will be joined by New Young Pony Club. Slicker than your average; NYPC really are ‘The Bomb’. Signed to uber-cool label Modular Records, ‘Ice Cream’ has become a cult track on indie and club dancefloors alike and their punk attitude and electro sound has made them one of the most in demand bands of the moment. Representing the hip-hop, grime and grindie scenes will be Plan B and Lethal Bizzle. Dubbed the ‘British Eminem’, Plan B’s semi-fictional tales of modern day life, characterised by acoustic beats has made him a unique talent. The ‘Bizzle’ meanwhile has had similar success with the singles ‘Oi’ (with More Fire Crew) and ‘Pow’ reaching the Top 10 in the charts. Elsewhere, ‘the next big thing’ or the next ‘Lily Allen’, depending which side of the fence you’re sitting on – Kate Nash woo’s us with her words, whilst the polka dot wearing Pipettes offer a spot of glitz and glamour with their infectious and flirty live pop show. North Londoners The Holloways get rawkus on their guitars and Foals play ‘Korean Pop, Minimalist and Afro-beat’, which is a rather nice collection of sounds don’t you think. Rising star Johnny Flynn gets intimate, Pull Tiger Tail get all guitary and boy/girl rockers Blood Red Shoes continue to catch the eye as one of the most hotly-tipped acts of 2007. Meanwhile, the dance revelry kicks off in the ClubClass Arena with Glasgow’s seminal double act Slam combining a rare festival appearance with their debut set for ClubClass after all these years. Fabric residents Stanton Warriors and ClubClass king, Nic Fanciulli also star together with breaks masters Meat Katie and Finger Lickin’ Records’ A Skillz. The evening’s entertainment comes to a dramatic and hedonistic close on Saturday night, with a very special Hacienda Set from original resident Mike Pickering. New bands (mostly local based acts) are represented on the Myspace Stage with Goodbooks, Lupen Crook, Scroobius Pip and The Thirst amongst the talent.

Happy Mondays, The Rakes, The Young Knives

One sleep later and Electric Gardens rolls out more of the good stuff on Sunday 5th August, culminating in the highly anticipated performance of the Happy Mondays to close the festival for another year. With Shaun Ryder back to his very best, Bez 100% confirmed to perform (no need for a passport after his USA disaster!) and a great sounding new album to road-test… the whole of Kent will be listening in! But before all that and just like Saturday’s action-packed day time billing, there’s loads of wicked bands to check out first, starting with art/punk band The Rakes. Back with a second album, ‘Ten New Messages’, The Rakes are a great British band who write songs about working life, mundane routines and escapism!! They received wide acclaim for their debut album ‘Capture/Release’ in 2005, spawning the singles ‘22 Grand Job’, ‘Work, Work, Work (Pub, Club, Sleep)’, and ‘Retreat’ and will be the perfect act to whip up the crowd before the Mondays. Next up is The Young Knives. Transgressive Records are onto a winner with this indie lot featuring the brilliantly named House of Lords and his two partners in crime. Their two Top 40 singles ‘She’s Attracted To’ and ‘Weekends and Bleak Days (Hot Summer)’ had us singing along like drunken groupies last summer and they’ll have you lot singing away too come August! Also on the bill are ‘the best new band in Britain’ (NME) - The Maccabees, London’s indie-rockers The Noisettes and singer/songwriter Patrick Wolf. The extravagant star recently released third album ‘The Magic Position’ on indie label Loog to great acclaim and with a hint of Bowie about him, a lot of glitter and a flamboyant way, Patrick Wolf really is a superstar in the making. Another new darling of the music world is Jack Penate. Signed to XL Records, Jack seems destined for big things this year. His pop sensibilities and remarkable song craft have already got him noticed - his energetic gigs are always rammed, his myspace page is among the most visited on there and, most recently, he cropped up in virtually everybody's 'Ones To Watch' poll. So there! The hottest things from Paris right now (no, they’re not on Ed Banger - The Teenagers take their cues from the likes of Pulp and Blur which should be fun, plus we welcome Liverpool lads Hot Club De Paris and teenage sensation (she’s only 16!!) Laura Marling. Also worth checking out are Mr Hudson & The Library and Kid Harpoon & the Powers that Be. Mr Hudson and his band The Library have an album that will be revered by all those who listen. With influences fusing occasional 808 beat, reggae inspired bass, more than a dash of Caribbean pan, some soulful vibes on piano and guitar, plus least we forget, Mr Hudson's vocals - the band are a truly unique and special talent. Kid Harpoon aka Tom Hill meanwhile is a local lad and a very popular one at that. Hailing from the Medway Towns and signed to XL Recordings, Harpoon is a man with an ear for a melody and more importantly, an ear for a tune. On the dance tip, one sleep later… ClubClass bring even more dancefloor ruckus to Mount Ephraim Gardens, and an equally satisfying day of musical enlightenment. Today’s headliners include one of ClubClass’ all-time favourite jocks and Global Underground pioneer - Danny Howells, plus fellow faves Funk D’Void and Justin Robertson… the acid-house general. Crosstown Rebels don Damian Lazarus will be flying the flag for minimal, just as SOS member and underground hero Desyn Masiello cranks up the bass. Representing the nu-breed will be Godskitchen’s Micky Slim and ClubClass resident Sam Ball – who’ll be going back-to-back with Together resident Anil Chawla. Over on the Myspace Stage go wild and crazy to the amazing Underground Heroes, electro-rockers Devils Gun and Sparrows amongst many other highly rated and highly regarded stars in the making.

TRAVEL DETAILS:
The site is located 7 miles from the university town of Canterbury and is easily accessible from major towns such as Ashford, Chatham and Maidstone, which are all around a 25 minute drive away. Faversham is 10mins away, Canterbury 15mins away and Whitstable 10mins away. Electric Gardens offers easy access to both the A2/M2, which is less than a mile away from the site. The local train stations are Canterbury and Faversham, which are easily accessed via London Victoria, Waterloo and Charing Cross.

ROAD:
If you are travelling by road, there is ample parking available at the event. From the M25, take the junction 2 exit onto the A2 heading south east. Follow the A2/M2 until you reach junction 7, where the road becomes the A299. At the next roundabout follow the signs to the Electric Gardens site. If travelling via another route, head for junction 7 on the M2 as above, for entrance.

RAIL:
There are taxi ranks at Faversham railway station, which can be reached via London Victoria (for a full timetable of connecting trains visit www.setrains.co.uk). Trains run from London Victoria, Waterloo and Charing Cross to Canterbury and Faversham roughly every half hour. If travelling on the Eurostar, there is a frequent train service between Ashford International and Canterbury West. For timetable visit www.eurostar.com.

SHUTTLE SERVICE:
A shuttle bus service will operate daily from Faversham and Canterbury West to the Electric Gardens site.

CAMPING/ OPENING TIMES:
There are full camping facilities on site all weekend. Camping starts at 10am Saturday 4th August. Gates will open midday on both the 4th and 5th August for day ticket holders and the event closes at 22.30hrs on the Saturday and 21.30hrs on the Sunday. For weekend ticket-holders, the campsite needs to be vacated by 10am Monday morning.

With less than a month to go now until Kent’s boutique festival Electric Gardens returns to the breathtaking grounds of Mount Ephraim Gardens on 4/5 August, we can exclusively reveal that 70% of all tickets have now sold out!! Way ahead of last year’s sales and with something of a mini-heatwave promised over that weekend, it looks like this summer’s festival is set to be a spectacular sell-out success. There’s only a few Weekend Camping tickets left now too, so anyone wishing to sleep under the stars would be best advised to snap up the remaining allocation whilst stocks last.

Electric Gardens rule the Charts!!

Electric Gardens 2007 is an interesting beast with a finely balanced line-up of legendary bands that defined an era, the hottest new bands of today’s era and some of the coolest DJs on the planet. Supergrass and the Happy Mondays are the big headliners this year, but in Calvin Harris, Kate Nash, New Young Pony Club, Jack Penate, The Maccabees, Patrick Wolf, Mr Hudson & the Library and The Teenagers, we’re thrilled to welcome some of the most hotly-tipped bands of 2007 to the stage the slightly more established acts like The Rakes, The Young Knives, The Pipettes, Plan B and Lethal Bizzle on stage.

In fact, a few weeks ago no less than three of the acts playing at Electric Gardens broke into the UK’s Top 10 Chart… two of them for the first time ever! Kate Nash reached no.2 with the brilliant ‘Foundations’, whilst Jack Penate debuted at no.7 with ‘Torn on the Platform’. The boy wonder Calvin Harris also spent his 3rd week in the Top 10 too as ‘Girls’ came in at no.9. Now although we couldn’t say anything at the time, we also had a 4th Electric Garden artist in that same chart, as sitting pretty at no.10 was another soon-to-be-massive band, who we’re delighted to announce have just been added to the bill…

Reverend & The Makers – Just Added!!

The brain child of Sheffield’s ‘Reverend’ AKA Jon McClure… Reverend and the Makers are the insanely popular indie/electro/Madchester-esque/funk band signed to Wall of Sound, who recently smashed their way into the UK’s Top 10 Charts with their debut single ‘Heavyweight Champion of the World’. Reverend's lyrics are a particular attraction. His down-to-earth, cynical and observant outlook on modern-day life are captured in refreshing, cutting and highly intelligent verses and delivered in a striking deep voice spoken in his notable Yorkshire accent. Interestingly McClure’s first band - Judan Suki, featured the Artic Monkeys’ Alex Turner and Matt Helders, (as well as Ed Cosens and Laura Manuel who are both now with The Makers), and the band have since gone onto support the Monkeys on numberous tours including their big Arena shows in Cardiff last month. Reverend and the Makers will be performing live on Saturday 4th August at Electric Gardens, on the main stage alongside Supergrass, Calvin Harris, The Pipettes and Kate Nash. Danny Howells is acceptable in the 80’s!

On a dance tip, we can announce that globally renowned DJ dude Danny Howells will be swapping his usual mix of rawkus underground wrongness for a spot of eyeliner, some disco high hats and a pair of spandex pants, as he’ll be playing a festival exclusive – 80’s Set!! We caught up with the pioneering jock to ask him why…

“I don't get many chances to dig out my old 80’s music so I jumped at the chance!! Lee Burridge and myself have done a few '80s parties at Miami’s Winter Music conference and they've become a bit of an institution! I imagine it's the only WMC party where Chas 'n' Dave and Cliff Richard have been played.” When asked if he had a dancefloor destroyer in his box, Danny laughed… “probably Starship's 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now'”. Crikey, we wasn’t expecting that!! And how about the festival clobber… would he be wearing clothes to match his set?! “Oh yeah, I wear that muck even when I'm NOT playing an '80s set!”

It’s for charity, mate…

Being the kind and caring souls that we are, this summer Electric Gardens will be raising money and awareness for two organisations close to hearts. First up is the Kent Air Ambulance Trust, who relieve sick and injured people in South East England and surrounding areas by providing a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) and air ambulance service for the benefit of the community. And second it’s our friends at Involved, the organisation that works with DJs, clubs, festival and labels to raise money for UNICEF and Children in Need.
