Big in Falkirk is back for its ninth year at Falkirk’s stunning 180-acre Callendar Park with a vast array of different performances and activities for all ages, from large-scale outdoor theatre commissioned specially for the Festival to big name music acts; Big in Falkirk has it all!
Scotland’s largest free festival and attracting over 100,000, this year’s highlights include nutkhut’s Bollywood Steps, a truly spectacular extravaganza which draws on the iconic imagery of India’s film industry with uplifting music and dancing, many costume changes, pyrotechnics and fabulous water effects. The World Premiere of Full Circle will close Big in Falkirk courtesy of festival favourites, The World Famous. Specialising in magical outdoor performances on an epic scale, Full Circle is a brand new commission for Big in Falkirk with live music from Slovenian band Terrafolk accompanied by fire, pyrotechnics and special effects to show seasonal change and the relationship between humanity and the environment.
Following on from the success of the inaugural event last year, the Environmental Art Project will return with stimulating outdoor art installations situated throughout Callendar Park, lead by artist Guyan Porter alongside students from Glasgow School of Art. Also look out for the challenging work from Chandraguptha Thenuwara, Sri Lanka’s renowned artist and peace campaigner.
On the Music Stage will be Levellers, 10cc, The Complete Stone Roses, Peatbog Faeries, Umdumo Wesizwe, Kissmet and much more.
As well as all this, Big in Falkirk will feature other events such as an abundance of sports activities including climbing wall, ski-slope, golf, basketball and an inflatable football pitch. The FairTrade Pavilion will also return, as well as the Festival Market, Under 5's Tent and a Fringe Tent programmed by Falkirk Council.
