Cortney Tidwell makes music of fascinating beauty: staggering, desolate, country infused laments sprinkled with subtle flourishes of electronics; skeletal, eerie, haunting structures that reach out far beyond their geographic roots. And her voice is even more remarkable, a thing of magic, an arresting and vulnerable instrument that recalls the likes of Leslie Feist, Hope Sandoval and Liz Fraser whilst maintaining a character all its own.

Cortney's debut mini album was released in the UK only in March 2006. Her debut full length album 'Don't Let Stars Keep Us Tangled Up' was recorded during the second half of 2005 in Nashville, and features guest appearances from Kurt Wagner and William Tyler of Lambchop, Jonathon Marx (a former founder member of Lambchop) and Ryan Norris of Nashville electronic act Hands Off Cuba. It was co-produced by Tidwell and her husband Todd.

'Giddy vocals, etheral drama and starburst guitars. 4/5' (The Times)
'Gorgeous.' (NME)

'Unsettles and unnerves in a way that recalls Gillian Welch if Sigur Ros were her backing band. 4/5' (Q)

'An exhilarating debut from an irrefutably original new talent.' (Mojo)

'One of the greatest and most original sets of songs to be released this year.' (The Sunday Times)

'Tidwell's debut is a banquet for fans of spine-tingling voices carried aloft by ambitious, reach-for-the-skies arrangements' **** (Uncut)

'Celestial harmonies tangle round her haunting voice in songs that seethe with darkness. As eerie as it is exciting.' (The Guardian)

Paris based Cyann & Ben formed in spring 2001, soon after the two started working together, and were joined by Charlie and Loïc (guitars, keyboards) for their first studio recordings. With their third album (and first for Ever Records), Cyann & Ben have significantly refined their sound. The nine songs on 'Sweet Beliefs' form a collection of noble but gritty beauty, its escapist enchantment anchored by a human frailty and vulnerability. As a suite of songs its slow burning pleasures take a while to reveal themselves, but the majesty within is worth your patience.
Their music offers an otherworldly grandeur: psychedelic, noble, fragile, pastoral, experimental and incandescent all at once, the sound of Sonic Youth reared on Pink Floyds lost masterpiece Soundtrack To More, or maybe Low picking Mogwai to pieces. 'Sweet Beliefs' is released on September 11th 2006 and is preceded by a four track EP, 'The Sunny Morning', in mid August.
