For the first time Ultra +, and Bete Noire, join forces in London to bring you a fantastic line up in a great, underground club. Hidden, is the venue in question and on the 2nd Dec it will play host to some great DJ’s, all looking to make our first night together a special one!!?
First up is
Anthony Pappa, a DJ, who is quite possibly, one of THE most ‘technically gifted’ DJ’s on the circuit. Even though having been a DMC champion and mixmag competition winner before the age of 19 maybe hinted at a career in the music business, it was through hard work, dedication and amazing mixing ability that the Australian DJ firmly established as one to watch. Over the next few years Anthony built on his already growing profile by working with the likes of Dave ‘Brothers in Rhythm’ Seaman and touring with Renaissance. He also ventured in to the studio with engineer, Alan Bremner, and Freefall was born, which in turn led to the anthem,”Skydive. Anthony also entered into the world of the mix albums and compiled long players for Global Underground and EQ, which was the ideal platform for him to showcase is mixing and programming skills. Ah yes…those mixing skills…did we forget to mention that he regularly would mark up and organise all his records in key order, perfectionist to the last. Anthony Pappa, fantastic DJ and great ambassador for dance music.
Next please…
Paul Jackson – an all in one! – DJ, Re-mixer and Producer. After serving his time spinning and remixing for years, Darren Emerson finally signed Paul to Underwater Records in January 2003. Then the floodgates opened. Pete Tong made “The Push” - Essential New Tune. No DJ worth his salt was with out it. Finally released in April 2003 it gained critical acclaim from DJ’s as diverse as Jon Carter, Steve Lawler & Annie Nightingale and the press! However, it wasn’t until the track was re-released with a vocal from Dirty Vegas Steve Smith that its full potential was released and it sold over 20,000 copies. Paul is not just recognised for his productions, as his DJ sets have secured him residencies over the years from Amnesia (Ibiza), The Cross (London), Ministry of Sound (London) and of course Underwater. Remixes for Dido, Gus Gus and Faithless, Bob Sinclair and TLC have also kept him busy whilst also being in the midst of writing his first album, complete with orchestra!
And by no means last….
Disciples of Sound…..
When you have the likes of Steve Lawler championing your tracks and a packed DJing schedule that takes you to Europe, USA, and South Africa, with further trips to Asia and Australia in the coming months, then it should come of no surprise that the Disciples of Sound are probably feeling pretty good about things. When they aren’t jet setting, then they are gracing some of the UK’s finest clubs and nights - The End, Turnmills, Godskitchen, Pacha and Ministry to name a few. Oh and that’s not to mention their exciting and successful Red Recordings label which is supported by Pete Tong, Carl Cox , Sander Kleinenberg, Nic Fanciulli, Hernan Cattaneo and Tom Stephan…and it doesn’t stop there as their productions just keep on coming.
“Angels Of Harlem”, “Good Times” and “The Look” were Mixmag and IDJ tracks of the month whilst “Perfect Motion” (Radio1 / Cool Cuts / DJ Hype Chart) and “That Feeling” have just been signed to Cosmonote for release in early 2007, with further tracks ‘Dirty’ & ‘Lose Control’ on their way. They have also completed remixes for artists as diverse as Michael Gray, Trophy Twins, Above & Beyond, Ricky Stone & Layo & Bushwacka! There are also new projects bubbling away with Seb Fontaine and Nic Fanciulli. A mix compilation is also on the horizon via Universal Music in early 2007, entitled “This Is Modern Dance Music Volume 1”. Indeed its difficult to know what to like about them most…, however with a profile as popular as D.O.S. it’s a real pleasure to have them play for us….as it is all the DJ’s playing for us on the 2nd…it’s going be a cracking night!
Phew!!
