After a welcome summer break Spin Out returns with the first release in our exciting winter programme from Spin Out stalwart Alex Metric. Alex has had a really busy 2006 so far, securing releases and remixes on Spin Out, Kilowatt, Lot 49, Adrift and Burrito, working with the likes of Meat Katie, Hyper and Dylan Rhymes. He has also started to branch further into house with a more minimal tech sound which will shortly be released on Four:Twenty. This, in addition to his ever growing DJ schedule which has seen him grace the decks at Technique in Leeds and Fabric and Dirty Habit in London means Alex’s profile is growing exponentially.

‘U Ready’ by Alex Metric is a storming techy number, with tough, uncompromising beats accompanying raucous, rocky vocals. Deep synthy basslines and arpeggiated bleeps give this track more energy than a three year old with a bag full of sweets and will guarantee to please both breaks and house dancefloors alike. As usual this is delivered in Metric’s trademark punchy, glitchy production which has seen him garner support from all regions of dance music’s wide spectrum.

Spin Out’s own Simon McEvoy aka Boy Next Door comes onboard for the remix duties to bring a slightly moodier edge, with a sweepy techno-inspred bassline bringing in full use of the filters this mix will move from speaker to speaker wreaking havoc on the dancefloor in peak time or anytime! Oh yeah, and mind the breakdown…you might have to peel people off the ceiling when this one goes off.

Dopamine is one of 2006’s most exciting artists, having started the year winning the ‘Best Single’ category at Breakspoll and being nominated for best breakthrough producer. He has gone on to release a glut of singles this year alongside studio producer and Titlefight label boss Klaus Hill and remixes on Menu Music, Wuteva Records and Fight Club. Here he brings the sound of Dopamine to Spin Out with a cut and dried breakbeat rework of Metric’s original. Fat beats, rolling bass and some massive breakdowns make this a remix which is bound to please even the most partisan dancefloor and provides yet another reason why he is surely one of the most respected talents in breakbeat.
