Soma are excited to announce London boy Mark-Henning as the newest addition to their ever-growing incredible roster of artists.

With prior releases on T$$$$z, Frankie Rec, Freude am Tanzen and Foundsound as well as upcoming remixes for the likes of Brett Johnson and Gaetano Parisio, Mark has risen up as one of the international underground’s true players, all while selling his soul as a corporate whore during the day. Mark now sticks two fingers up to the 9-5 and follows the advice of his solid fan base to make music his new day job and to finally release an album of his work. With DJ support pouring in from artists as varied as Akufen and Villalobos, it’s about time Mark put his talent to CD.

Jupiter Jive is a wonky excursion through the stretches of madness that make up Mark-Henning’s deranged mind. Years of sleep exhaustion through balancing his life as a corporate sell-out and all-round rock star have taken their toll on his sanity with music being the only way to communicate the voices and imagery in his head. The resulting album is nothing short of $$$$ed up.

After a brief opening rant Almaha913 kicks things off with some skippy, swingtime minimal house full of warbling samples and crisp beats. TV transmissions intermittently interrupt to reliably inform that Bury Town are being beaten 2-0.

The album continues, developing Mark’s twisted minimal house and techno as it progresses. Tracks like Moody $$$$$$$ and I Lost My Brain At Wrinchout are undeniably dark yet maintain enough funk to freak the floors. Frau Daudle and Chav Land are both tripped-out wonky voyages through jelly landscapes while Fabrique Belgique will have you dancing to your worst nightmares in a track best described as Halloween-disco-house. Stash is a hypnotic, Eastern-tinged slice of deep minimal house with a destructive breakdown while album-finisher All Star Geek is a devastating work, stabbing and crushing all in its path.

Mark-Henning is definitely a name to watch over the coming months as his underground appeal continues to build with some of the world’s top names in electronic music.

reviews:

Dave Congreve – Really strong EP, that’s dark, quirky and unrelentingly funky. A1 & AA2 are my personal faves, will certainly be playing those and charting at 7. 9/10

Jim Masters – Nice EP, lots of darkness, which we all like! For me Ed’s mix is probably the most usable on the floor, nice groove! 7/10

Ryan Elliot – Loving this release. The Davenport mix is pure peak time!! 8/10

Jamie Anderson – Great tracks – will give these a play! 9/10

Dave Martin - Very cool, really just what I'm looking for at the moment. Mark's moved things up a notch. Will play all tracks on the release which is a rarity. Thanks. 8/10

Gregor Tresher – Cool release. I like A1 and AA1. Thanks. 8/10

Laurent Garnier – All Star Geek original is the one for me. Great stuff. Will play everywhere. 8/10

Santi Xpansul - My Favourite is Moody $$$$$$$ Remix, and All Star Geek (Original) is a really nice piece of mysterious tech house.

Mike Monday - Have been playing the original of All Star Geek everywhere. I played it at Watergate last week to the best reaction yet...

Shelley Parker – Moody $$$$$$$ is excellent – great sounds and production and Ed Davenport’s remix is also great. 10/10

Dave Tarrida – Another quality release. 8/10

Alexi Delano – Digging Moody $$$$$$$ and thee Ed Davenport remix. Great job! 8/10

Dan Curtin – Love the energy, big sounds and futurism on all the tracks. The Ed Davenpoirt remix and original mixes are my faves. They sound huge! Full support.
