I really watch X Factor as the start for the comedy auditions, after that these days it's politics.
Go to youtube and sort by views and post date searching for 'demo' , this is the new way to find talent.
I don't think its a stupid question... but it is a stupid show.
and it can help artist careers. Take Goo Goo Dolls for example they released iris in 1998 with a lot of success, and because of xfactor they are back in the charts with the same song. proof that it can boost a career.
The best moment on the xfactor for me :
That is pretty hilarious! How can anyone actually take him seriously, acting, dressing and 'singing' like that? Geezus!
I like the X Factor. But lets not confuse it with the music industry as we know it. Its mindless entertainment with sob stories and people embarrassing themselves. To suggest the X Factor is a genuine representation of the Music Industry or even a valid part of it is like saying that Big Brother reflects our own lives, or that Jamie Oliver learnt his trade on Master Chef.
I don't think it saves careers, but it enhances them. When the contestants sing the songs, they will have an increase in sales, whether that's a small increase or a big increase is besides the point, its a increase. The increase may be so big that the song is then catapulted back into the Top 40, which I'm sure any artist would be happy about.
x factor conspiracy theory
google it, hilarious !

Saves careers of people not involved in it like the Goo Goo Dolls as NathJC123 mentions. The show is not about finding true musical talent as only a very few X factor winners or even runner ups do well. The show is a good laugh though and you got to salute Simon Cowell for her business mind though (his TV company produces the programme and then the winner gets signed up to his record label and usually hits X mas No. 1).
