best place to open one, i reckon, would be somewhere with no other *specialist* record shops near by... and it has to be easy to get to!

my local shop (SFR) is right next to a bus stop, more or less on top of the high street, and about a 10 min walk from 2 train stations!

your gonna need a big budget though bruv.. i think its in the region of between £50k & £100k... cos you need premises etc etc..

then you gotta get records from distributors & staff blah blah blah

If in Essex, I'd say opposite Toys R Us in Basildon.

Soundzone would be a good name.

Seriously, that is your main competititor round that way Loops.

I wouldn't go near Romford either.

    quest ru mad?

a couple of thousand is all u need, u never buy premises, u should rent, incase it goes all wrong.
all the main distributers offer a main line of credit/account as they r desperate for customers and u always take stuff on sale or return from the independents.
always prepare to not make any money for a long while, so set yourself a budget to live on/work with?
advertising is you biggests cost, but people like me r always on hand to help small businesses.
as far as premeses r concerned its all about location, location and finally location. find an area with loads of nightlife and day life u shouldnt worry about setting up near v shop etc, they dont sell vinyl.
and lastly u need to decide what music so sell?
drum n bass and rnb are the biggest selling units after pop music, but personally id sell any kind of music i could get in the shop.
